I get a hesitation then a fierce response. I have had my timing set with a light and my carb set with gauges. What could be the problem. I have also change my fuel filter. New carb and all other ignition components

Basically, what is left? You changed the filter, the carb the ignition, the timing. All that's left is airflow, and fuel pump. But since you're getting "big power" I doubt it's the fuel pump.

Also, just how long is this hesitation? Are you talking a second or two? Or is it just barely noticeable? If it's really short, it's probably nothing. It's a 1973, it's not EFI, it's not computer controlled, it's all mechanical. So it's not quite as quick. I had a 74, and a 75 Olds, and they both had a really short hesitation, but it was less than a second. Completely normal for those cars.

Does it have a turbocharger of and kind on it at all? if so then that might be a slight turbo lag. You see, when the engine is at high revs then hot exhaust is spinning the turbine of the turbocharger fast as well. at idle, the turbo is barely spinning. When you hit the gas, there is a slight hesitation or "lag" as the exhaust has to get the turbine side spinning fast enough so that the impeller side of the turbo can push the air into the carburetor(i would assume since its a 73 that it has a carburetor). Until that happens, the air meets resistance from the impeller.

check the accelerator pump on the carb...it shoots an extra squirt of fuel when you step on the gas....it might be squirting too much which would flood the engine for a split sec or not squirting enough and the engine leans out until the airflow thru the carb pulls in enough fuel

Sounds like that you have a fuel pump issue!! Check your fuel pump or fuel pump regulator if you have one!
