Diebold Voting Machines?
just kidding.
The elite minority can hide in their mansions and not see the country gone to hell. If they can't see it, it doesn't happen.
They control the military and can kill as many people as need to keep things rigged.
After Mugabe dies, that's when things will happen. A Lear-like ppower struggle can be expected with the poor suckers of Zimbabwe paying the price. More Land reform anyone?

Nobody will understand how Mugabe keeps holding on in Zimbabwe, unless it is accepted that people in rural areas idolise him - most of the opposition is based in urban areas, which have been hit hardest by economic woes.

He still is seen in rural areas as the man who got rid of white rule and you may like it or not, but this fact alone inspires devotion from his followers. Every time his support fades, he only has to refer to the evident imperialist intentions of various world powers such as the US and UK, who are slaughtering far more people than he ever did, and he gets roars of approval.

They may or may not be right in that, but that's the answer to your question.

Probably because the elections are rigged and he keeps beating up his opposition and throwing them out of the country.
I would never wish anyone dead but that is the only way Zimbabwe will get rid of him.
