If your battery won't hold a charge, you have a bad battery. Since you run the car for a long time after starting it, your alternator is meeting the car's electrical needs. Plan on replacing your battery and have the charging system tested. You may still have a bad circuit from the alternator.

first of all, if the battery has bad cells, you cannot jump it off, even though some of the electric work. I would put a new battery on it first, if you know someone who can remove the alternator, take it to an auto parts store and have it checked, the price quoted you is very steep. An alternator rebuild shop would charge no more than a Hundred or so to rebuild it. A rebuilt alternator at a parts store would be cheaper. If you went to a dealer, they are quoting a new alternator. Try the battery first, I think that will fix your problem. You can get a good cheap battery at Walmart

A really easy way to determine that is to get your car started. Jump it or whatever, then ,with the car running, take the negative battery cable off of the battery. If the car dies with the cable off, it is a bad alternator. The reason this is, is that a good alternator will make more than enough current at an idle to keep the car running. If the car stays running with the cable off, your battery is bad. It does sound like a bad battery to me, but this is how i always tell. Another way is to take it to you local auto-parts store and see if they can check your charging system for you. Almost all parts stores will do this for free.

Probably the battery. Try running a charger on the battery for a few hours. If it still doesn't start, then it's definitely the battery. And since the car runs just fine once it's started, I don't think you have a alternater issues. If it's the alternator, you'd likely have a light or a guage that would show low voltage when the car is running.

It is your battery. Your alternator has nothing to do with a cold start. Your alternator simply charges your battery and makes sure it is full for your next start and to run cosmetics inside the car such as lights and radio. Do you check your alternator because a bad battery can easily cause your alternator to go bad as well. Take your battery to almost any parts store and they will test it for free to verify the cause of the problem. Most part stores will remove it from your car as well.

Take it to a parts store and have them run a test on the battery, starter, and alternator. I am going to bet that they will tell you that your battery is low and most likely will need replaced, and that your alternator is reading low. If that is the case have them charge the battery to full charge and then retest everything on the car. If the alternator is still reading bad then replace it. You will be buying a battery I am sure.

Sounds like the alternator, and you are running straight off the battery. You'll need to get it fixed, because if you don't, the battery is going to die while driving, leaving you stranded, this is especially true if you are using your headlights, stereo, anything pulling a draw. Then you'll need a new battery as well as the alternator.

sounds like your battery is simply bad.
check the voltage output of the alternator, it should be 13-15 volts.
If less, then the alternator is going bad and running off the battery.
