This program I am trying to install is telling me to hit any key to continue... where the hell is it?

This is a real problem with education today, it doesn't teach basic grammar, which has implications for so many things.
The PC is not telling you to hit "the" any key, it is telling you to hit "any" key.
"The" is the definite article, signifying that the noun "any key" would be unique. If you can't find the the "any key" on your keyboard, logic (also seriously lacking) would direct you to the alternative interpretation, which is ...
"Any" in this phrase is an indefinite determiner, signifying that it doesn't matter which key you press, the result will be the same.

At the risk of walking into a trap and assuming you *are* serious:
The computer isn't telling you to hit the "any" key but to hit any darned key you wish.
This has been a joke for a *very* long time which is why you are probably pulling my leg. In a "Simpson's" episode homer was working on his computer and talking aloud.
" 'Press any key to start the program'...
"Where's the "any" key?!?! I see the esk key, and the kiteral and the ... Oooh, Tab! I could go for a cold drink right now!"
[presses the tab key]
[program starts and chimes]
"Oh! No time for carbonated beverages! I have work to do!"

You skipped a couple steps. Follow these instructions:
1. Turn the power off
2. Disconnect the power cord
3. Close the lid on your laptop
4. Throw it in the trash ... you are incapable of running the machine.

it means hit the "enter" key, or the "space" key , just hit the keyboard to continue. good luck to you.

EASY, just close your eyes and hit the keyboard. GUARANTEED, you will hit "any key".

in case if u r duh... any key means press anything u wish to press (in computer) except power keys...........or....
u know what just press space bar or any # or alphabets...
