If you refer to your manual, which I have just downloaded, that system only supports up to 2GB of RAM. I don't know where you were told it supported up to 4GB, although if it was crucial.com, which is a site a lot of people use, all I can say is they are wrong on occasion, the manual is always the first and best place to look. Simply put, if the board will not support 4GB, it won't support it, not much you can do.

This is more of a comment to Yasha's answer. It's interesting because I'm running XP and I have 4GB of RAM. And the PC runs like a champ. I used to run on 2GB, but have since upgraded because I use a lot of graphics intensive software (not games) and the extra memory has made a big improvement.

Now, in answer to the actual question. Is your pair of RAM modules identical? They usually have to be in order for the motherboard to recognize both. Are they of the correct pin size? When you purchased them, did you make sure they're compatible with your PC? If you got them from a reputable seller, they should be able to help you out.

If your running windows Xp, than windows xp does not recognize more than 2 gb's of ram. try taking out two and see if it starts. And really no one needs 4 gigs.
