ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha. I really hope rayne was kidding and that was a joke because that was some funny stuff. I dont even know where to start. "race car" first lets assume that it was a 02 ss camero, even then with exhaust it would only be a 355hp car, hardly a "race car". Second off, she said in once sentance he fixed it up a little and added exhaust but in the next sentence said he only put $25 into the car. Please tell me where to get a $25 exhaust system. What did he do, cut off some stuff with a hand saw and the $25 was the cost of picking up some stuff from the dump and the cost of the duct tape used to attach it?
As far as buying a camero, it depends on the year and millage, it is impossible for anyone to give you accurate and honest information without knowing at the very least what year the camero is and also the millage on it would help. Also, is it going to be your everyday driving car, or is it a "fun" weekend car? I go by consumer reports because they provide a the best info on cars reliabillity and resale value. They take values and repair history from all over the country. The camero according to consumer reports for almost every year does not retain its value very well. As far as reliabillity and repair history, it is really hit and miss depending on what year you are looking at. Some are the worst possible and some are above average.
Sorry rayne, im not picking on you, i just thought your comment was funny.

Sako, consumer reports was rated the #1 guide for repair and reliabillity history by over 10k certified mechanics per car and driver nov 06 issue. They did a servey of 10225 certified us mechanics and consumer reports recieved a first place vote from just over 82% of the mechanics. Also to say the 335hp is a "crap load" is just embarassing. You need to go back to the 70's with your (gasp) 115hp camero, I guess you must be the old fart. You need to spend some time at the track just dont mention that 335hp is a "crap load" or youll be laughed off the track. After you go to the track then maybe you can post an answer with some fact based information instead of you opinion based garbage. I guess next youll tell me that mechanics have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to cars as well and you know better. Next time stick to the spelling bee's where it appears all of your knowlege lies, and leave the "crap load" of horse power to vehicals that at the very least make 400rwhp
Does anyone use facts to support there information? Gary, "consumer reports knows nothing about value" Per consumer reports (www.consumerreports.com) they base there rating of a cars retention of value on the price kelly blue books lists the car as new and the price kelly blue book show the current price. They then take the % of dollars lost per year and rate it compared to other vehicals made the same year. So the 02 camero is below ave meaning that at least 51% of the cars manufactured in 02 retained a higher % of there orginal price. So its fact based information, it cant be argued.
Finally, we come to James who once again does not use fact based information. The 2000 cobra R has 385hp and 385tq and has a top speed of 175mph which is faster then the ss camero. The cobra R also has a faster 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile time the the ss camero. Even though 0-60mph times dont matter to anyone who races, the cobra R also has a faster 0-60mph time then the ss camero.
SBoy. could you please copy and paste the kkb web page where you saw that the 02 camero was one of the highest rated coupes. I cant seem to find it and when I sent a question to kkb asking them about it they told me that they dont have the 02 camero anywhere on there site rated as a most reliable vehical so please if you can find it again, paste the address. Something tells me that you wont be pasting the adress because it doesnt exsist.

I have a '99 Z28 6-speed as a somewhat daily driver, and here is what I've observed while owning it:

Purchase price in January 2004 - $11,500 (mileage = 37K)
Suggested retail today, per www.kbb.com - $10,895 (mileage = 71K)

Fuel economy ranges, depending on how I drive it, but it is usually consistent at just over 20 mpg (combined city and highway). I drove it to a wedding about a month back, and got 28.33 mpg from pure highway travel. Not bad for 345 hp V8!

In my opinion, the V8 Camaros hold their value pretty well. The V6s don't resell well in my area. Mainly because they have all of the disadvantages of the V8 (rear wheel drive in Indiana weather is bad), and their advantage (gas mileage) isn't enough of an incentive to offset their lower power rating. Again, that's my take on them.

Sorry about everyone else, you really can't ask a question about a sports car without a car junkie yelling "V8!!!"

But take it from me, I own a 2002 V6 Camaro and Im very impressed with it. It holds its residual value average to another car, its not top of the class but its not a Ford Taurus.. My last tank averaged about 28mpg, both city and highway. Just don't floor it at every redlight and you'll be fine! as for a V8 Camaro, responsible driving will get atleast 24 or 25mpg, not too shabby for 300+ horsepower.

The camaro has been ranked as one of the highest reliable couples in its class (check out kbb.com under 2002) and its so much fun to drive, and it has kinda unique look to it. Either way you'll look good and you'll have fun driving it. Life it too short to drive a boring sedan! Enjoy life!!

The older they are the more they hold there value.67 to 69s are very expensive 70 to 73s are also very expensive 74 to 79 are cheap but usually very rough. 80 and 81 Camaros are getting up there in price 82 to 92s are the cheapest but some rare ones are bringing pretty good money.the 93 to 02s are not bringing lots of money Looks and large selection are keeping the prices down. If your worried about gas mileage it's not the car for you.P.S. Consumer reports does not like any type of performance and knows nothing of there true values.

AS the owner of a 2000 SS Convertible I gotta say that my previous Camaros ( 1984 and 1980 Z28's ) retained their value quite well as most GM cars do. My current car came stock with 325 horseys and will do over 150 mph. Current Mustangs shut down around 142 mph ( they are unstable over that speed ) I think the Cobra R is a little faster ( 147 mph ) and if I " keep my foot " out of it ...." Baby " does good on gas BUT " Baby " takes Premium. As for maintenance...being a GM technician most of my mechanicing career...I do all my own work. I can say I have had to do little in the way of " break down " type of repairs. I hope I shed some light on the subject for you .

No the retail value is horrible on them. They're a dime a dozen car. Gas mileage wont be fantastic, but it'll be decent with the 6 cylinder, expect maybe 20mpg.

I had a 1987 and held it for a long time in anticipation of what you are saying.
It cost me so much money, insurance, then having it in the garage the tires got dry rot. Batteries failed.
It just became too much of a maintenance item.
It was my gamble and I lost

Hey Mike K, Camaro is spelled with an A, he meant $25 of gasoline, and Consumer Reports are whiny old farts who don't know crap about cars. "Only" 335hp? WTF, 335 is a crapload.

BTW, my 1979 Camaro got 30mpg, but it only had 115hp.
