on K e jet fuel systems most complaints are from carbon build up in throttle body and lift plate, these should be checked and addressed first.
the constant idle motor for these is not very cleanable regular carb clean spray destroys them and replacement [while expensive ] is the norm.
this car uses air shroud injectors [idle air is directed at the injector spray to better atomize the mixture] and has rubber hoses nipples and fittings that run up to the constant idle motor as well as the crankcase vent system, any cracks, splits, or breaks will result in "false air" [unmeasured air] and idle quality can suffer substantially. these pieces by now [20 yrs] will be brittle and deformed due to heat.
note 1. that if the over-voltage protection relay is bad [or fuse mounted in the top of it is blown] the fuel management system will have no power resulting in poor idle and stalling as well as generally poor performance
note 2.the nature of this system demands clean fuel at the correct pressure you mentioned fuel pump[s] but not filter the filter should be changed on a regular basis and whenever pump[s] replacement is done
note3 . the oxygen sensor has a large amount of idle control on this model and at this age it may be dead but the above items must be checked and remedied first.

You can find Mercedes-Benz specialists all over the place, but your problem is with the idle control. This is part of the Bosch fuel injection system which was also fitted to BMW and other cars of the same era. Any fuel injection specialist should be familiar with it unless they have come down in the last shower. Your car will almost certainly have have Bosch ke-jetronic or maybe the Californian variant k lambda jetronic.
The problem could be electronic, or could be due to grunge building up near the air intake. A third cause that may be easy to fix is to check the condition of the electrical connections to the air intake system. This has been known to give trouble.
Clean the system and electrical connections first, this is cheap and probably requires no spare parts. Do not let anyone tell you straight off that the electronic circuit boards are the cause, they may be, but you should eliminate the other possibilities first. The electronics are readily available from wrecks and scrapped cars, if you have to replace them try "buyMBparts" (look for web site) which I believe is located in Georgia and is a recognised supplier to the MB club of the USA. I believe that they will ship internationally so the west coast should be no problem.
Here's a trick that may be worth trying. Remove the air filter entirely and get the motor idling. Then fairly gently tap the body of each of the injectors with the plastic handle of a large screwdriver. Don't bash, gently. This can loosen particles in the injectors. You can run some injector cleaner at the same time. However mildly dirty injectors are unlikely to cause stalling problems.
Look for specialist M-B sites on the net, search for things like "W126" and "idle" or "Bosch fuel injection". Some sites have detailed instructions on how to fix these things. I think you may find such instructions in the "MB coupes" site archives from several years ago. You may have to sign up to the forum to search the archives. There is a lot about the ke-jetronic system on the web, not all of it is in English. The Wikipedia article below is only the start.

Can`t afford the repairs ? then you should sell the import. Wanna look good you have to pay. It`s a Mercedes. And it`s 20 years old. How many miles? Chances are its old hoses on the motor. But most of us cannot tell you the problem with out looking at it. sorry . is it k-j or l fuel injection?

Look into cleaning the throttle body/butterfly valve and the idle air control valve and see if that works. Not sure if you have a mass air flow sensor, but you should clean that too.
