Yes, but it's easier to do *counted* cross-stitch with a "tapestry" needle. A tapestry needle has a dull point. However, if the cross-stitch is a pattern *stamped* on firmly woven fabric, rather than worked from a graph by counting stitching on specially-woven fabric, a sharply-pointed needle would be preferable.

When I lived over 10 miles from the nearest "needlework" store, without transportation beyond my own feet, I'd use an emery board to convert darning needles into tapestry needles. The needlebooks from the General Store always included large-eyed darning needles.

A normal needle's fine. Just thread the needle, and bring the thread from the back to the front of the fabric. Then insert the needle back into the fabric on the diagonal. Repeat this on the other side, so it makes a cross. Cross-stitch is very time consuming, but rewarding. Good luck!

This site will tell you what you need to know. Right off the top I can tell you not to use a regular needle. You need a tapestry needle that has a blunt point. Learn more here.

they usually use a dull pointed needle but any needle is ok as long as it will hold the thread, you can look up basic cross stitch on line, centering your design is the first and one of the most important and hardest things about it. you really need a web site with photos.

Yes, you can use a regular needle. Just do the diagonals one way and then do the opposite set of diagonals.
