This is a pretty technical question and I had to do some research on www.Wikipedia.com. A sudden surge in the level of LH, a hormone, causes ovulation. LH is always present in the body but in smaller amounts than are seen just prior to ovulation. The release of LH matures the egg and weakens the wall of the follicle in the ovary. This process leads to ovulation: the release of the now mature ovum. The LH surge can last from 1-3 days. Most people will ovulate 12-48 hours after the LH surge is detected; most common is 36 hours after the actual surge. The surge in LH can usually be detected in the urine 8-12 hours after it occurs in the blood. Several kits are available to detect this surge.on the given link of testcountry below, you can have a look at few of them. if you want to know about the menstrual cycle check this link on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstrual_cycle

Ovulation is the process in the menstrual cycle by which a mature ovarian follicle ruptures and discharges an ovum (also known as an oocyte, female gamete, or casually, an egg) that participates in reproduction. Ovulation also occurs in the estrous cycle of other animals, which differs in many fundamental ways from the menstrual cycle.

You usually ovulate about 14 days after the first day of your last period. You can buy ovulation tests that will tell you when you are ovulating.

You can also do a urine test or use a Fertility Watch to monitor.

hormones cause an egg to ripen and be released every month, usually around 14 days after your period starts. . If you are having regualr periods you are probably ovulating. If you have been ttc for a while and nothing has happened, see your dr.
