if they are aluminum rims dont paint them if they are stamped steel then you just have to sanf them won with a about 150 or so grit to primr then step up a little after you prime then and then clean and paint them i do it all the time with semi truck wheels its not that hard and i can usually have a full set done in a day

Don't listen to these guys, its your choice and everybody has different taste. Myself i prefer chrome but working at a body shop I can give you a little advice on this project. First clean the rim you want to paint really good. You probably have simple green at home that'll work as a degreaser. Now I'm not sure if your rims are steel or aluminum but either way 99% of a great paint job is prep. So the better job you do prepping the better the paint well look and hold up. If you have a clean surface you need to rough it up to get the paint to adhere. A red scotch bright pad works great but you could also use 220 sand paper. If painting over bare metal you'll want to use a metal prep adhesion promoting primer, otherwise regular primer well work. The reason we want to primer is we want an even color under our paint and a good strong bond. Next begin painting with several light coats allowing the paint to flash off between coats per the instructions on the can. While painting with a can requires more patiance a great paint job can be acheived! Good luck!

I would unmount the tires, and use about a 300-400 grit paper to scuff the rims. Use a cleaner to remove any grease, then prime the wheels. Use an automotive grade paint, depending on the finish you want, you can clear coat the wheels after you get the color you want. good luck.
