Wednesday I'm taking my driver's test. I live in Cary, North Carolina which is close to raleigh so they might be similar. I moved here 2 years ago so I don't know what they have you do on the road test . I'm also 17 if that makes a difference. I'm wondering what they have you do. I was told they don't make you parallel park or highway drive. I don't know if thats true or not so If anybody has taken it could you tell me what they ask you to do. I know we have to do a 3-pt turn but do they make you do it in the road or do they tell you to do it on a residential street. I think i'm ready but I can't parallel park and I haven't practiced high way driving down here. I would love any advice at all!

I am actually going to take my road test tomorrow, though I am 18. I took it last monday and failed because I looked out the wrong window when I was backing up. As long as you obey the speed limit, check both mirrors and blind spots when asked to switch lanes (and of course use your turn signals!!), use your turn signals when doing your 3-point turn, come to a full rock-back stop at stop signs but do not come to a full stop when turning and there is no stop sign and back up looking out your back window and staying on your side of the road, you'll pass. Whew. I know it sounds like a lot, but the road test is only about five minutes. Of course, it is easier to pass in some places than others. The DMV on Capital in Raleigh is notorius for being full of assholes who just fail you because they're bored and hate their jobs (it's true, i took the test there too) but just go to a chill place and you'll do fine.
Good luck.
Also, reading chapter four of the dmv handbook online might help.

I live in the hickory area..which is basically the other side of the state..but it depends on how the DMV does drivers tests..some places make you drive on the road while others just set up a course in the parking lot..you don't have to go on the highway and you don't parallel park...but yes you do have to do a 3 point road turn but its very easy i think..

The one thing that got points taken off for me was when I was backing up, I didn't keep looking backwards until the car came to a complete stop. We were just barely rolling, when I looked around. Just take your time and don't be nervous. The examiner wants to pass you just as much as you want to pass. Take it easy, don't speed, and you'll be fine. good luck
