They probably won't admit her just because she has a fever unless they suspect there is something serious going on with her. They will tell you to do what you are doing. Have you tried a cool bath? That helps my daughter's fevers to reduce. Also, you could try a cool water enema...sounds icky to do, but it will reduce a fever quickly. I hope your daughter gets better quickly.
EDIT-Um...I would definately take her in...I should have added that in. I am just saying that they probably will not admit her into the hospital unless they think she has something like menengitis or life threatening.

Definitely take her to the emergency room. They will probably draw some blood to do a blood culture to determine the cause of her fever, check her blood count, and check her electrolyte levels. They may also start an IV to give her fluids if she cannot keep anything down. Sometimes a fever can be due to dehydration. The doctors may start her on IV antibiotics just as a precaution. Once they do this, she will have to be admitted because she will need antibiotics every 6-8 hours by IV depending on the antibiotic.
Hope that everything turns out okay!

I take it you are taking her in tomorrow morning. You may want to try to give her a lukewarm bath to get her temperature down a little bit. Hard to say what the doctor will want to do. If they peek in her ears and its an ear infection, they will probably just give you a prescription and tell you to come back if she isn't improving in 48 hours. If the cause of the fever isn't obvious they will likely do some blood tests and go from there, perhaps give her a antibiotic shot if they suspect a bacterial infection. Despite what some others have said a fever of 103 is not something to flip out about.

My son had 105 fever which wouldn't go down much. It went down to102 with Motrin as suggested by the on-call nurse I called at 2 am. They don't seem to worry so much anymore about fevers that won't go down as long as it isn't a really high one. They seemed okay with his as long as it wasn't 105 (it stayed at 102), which it wasn't after the initial start of the fever. He had a fever for three days, and every day I called them and everyday they said "don't worry". A lukewarm (or comfortable temperature) bath helps also.
Just make sure she is drinking lots of fluids and I'm glad you are taking her to the Dr.
They finally wanted to see him after the fever broke and he got a rash. It turned out he got Roseola which is pretty common (although sounds gross). And two days afer the rash he was himself again.
Hope everything goes okay at the Dr. appointment.

Do you really need a 103 temperature to think about the emergency room???? Come on sweetie, think about it. You should have been in by 101. Fevers are no joke especially for youngins. Just don't keep her covered in heavy clothing because it will make her temperature rise even more. That's a fact. Light clothing, fluids, and ER ASAP. Good Luck.

Not normal do they admit for a fever for dehydration is that you are looking for in running a fever for a long time Is she pulling at her ears?Does she have diarrhea? Is she vomiting? I best quest is she is cutting teeth and she having a hard time.but its a good thing to take her in if she is still running a high fever for more than 24 hours because of the change of dehydration Good luck

Not necessarily, they will check her, maybe take a few tests, and/or give you a prescription for her to take. Its possible she may have had a cold and has infection from that cold, and may need antibiotics or other medication. Make sure you let them know of any allergies she may have when you bring her in. They may decide to admit her to monitor her over night or something, but you are doing the right thing by bringing her in to be checked. Good luck!

Yes, definitely take her to the ER. That's a high fever for a baby. They will probably do some blood and urine tests and most definitely give her an IV. Just take her and be there with her to comfort her. God bless you and your baby.
And it's not good to change her temp. quickly, such as by putting her in a cool bath, that can cause her to go into shock.

Yes, if there is a pediatrics urgent care in your area, go there now, if not then the emergency room. Definately get a second opinion. Anything over 102 is dangerous for a baby.
