I remember reading an article describing how americans are one of the most obese people of the world or something like that. Movies like Supersize Me have somewhat proved it but what do you think?

Yes America is getting fatter all the time and I am a perfect round example. I had at one time been as low as 220 (10 years ago). I let myself go for a while and rose to 270 or so and stayed there for five years mostly because I was always teased about my size. Two years ago, I knew I would only be happy if I gained and became very large and very obese. I added 100 pounds in two years and am working on being even larger - as much as I can be and still walk. So yes American like me are getting fat but I also think they want to be fat in many cases. I know I do. I like my size and I like showing my growing girth and belly for others to see. Not all like fat and obese people and if you are fat and obese you have to put up with the riducule.

The red state insults are really getting tired. It's a symptom of poverty, not a red/blue state thing. Healthy food is more expensive than junk food, so states with lower average income (primarily the south) have higher rates of obesity. But the gap between the fattest and healthiest state is just 12% (so the fattest state has about 1 more fat person out of ten compared to the healthiest state). The middle 30 states rank within 5% of each other, so in most states you're talking about 3 or 4 people out of 100.

Yeah, I could reference all kinds of studies and locate links for you on the web but here's the answer:

Yes! Just take a look around, it's disgusting. People are killing themselves, literally.

I think healthcare should corolate to your BMI (body mass index) because being overweight has everything to do with anything that affects your health.

The chances of you having everything from glycoma to diabetes to asthma to ANYTHING goes up when you are obese!

So yes, America is fat and it's sad.

Is America GETTING fat???? Hellooooo!!!!! We've long surpassed GETTING fat! WE ARE FAT! Look around you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's EXTREMELY uncommon to see a overweight person in 'most' other countries, but here you can walk down the street and see 7 out of 10 people are over weight, ranging anywhere from slightly to morbidly! And then of course out of the three others left, one will be a healthy weight and the other two will be underweight because of bulmia or anorexia.

I agree that we are. Look at the clothing sizes, our shoes and the car seats and theatre chairs. Just driving down the street, looking at people going in and out of buildings, is enough to convince someone that plus size is in.
I think a lot of it has to do with people being afraid to go out anymore. You can't walk or jog without putting yourself in danger and bicyclists are just speed bumps for most motorists. It's a sad state of affairs.

America's been fat for a while now. it's just becoming some-what acceptable to be fat now. too much emphasis is placed on beauty as being the reason not to be fat. being fat is bad for your health and should not be promoted as the new "norm". being skinny is not healthy either. it's not about being fat nor skinny. it's about being healthy and neither one is.

You bet. We are definitely putting on the pudge (a trend not limited to the US, however). Check out the link below to see this trend pictorially on a US map.
