We are doing fine financially, we currently pay 600.00 a month to rent an apartment. Her parents live in South Carolina we live in Shreveport,La. I LOVE it in south carolina and really get along great with her family. We would move into her brothers bedroom, which is a pretty decent size. They have a 2 story 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bath house. It would be a great way to save for a house, they wouldnt charge us rent or anything. We would just pay for food. We have figuired if we stayed with them for 2 year we could have almost 25 grand saved up for a house. It just really seems like a fast and easy way to save for a house instead of paying rent. What do u think? Thanks

I don't know. It's a big move. If you both have jobs that are decent paying, there could be other ways to save money. I'm not a big fan of moving across the country, but I'm sure you're wife will be ecstatic!

My suggestion is this: if you guys aren't having any problems saving money now, then don't move. Obviously if you move in with her parents you can save even more, but you need to weigh some of the pro's and con's and also think about what could happen. Of course, the one big pro here is the extra money you could save. But look at the con's.
One obvious con could be your sex life. Think long and hard about this, because it IS important. I don't know about anyone else here, but I sure don't want to have sex at my in-law's home. You guys have only been married a year - enjoy your newlywed years alone. Second, this could change your opinion of your in-laws. When you live with someone, it gives you an opportunity to see more of their faults. If you have a good relationship with them now, chances are living with them could make that relationship worse. These people will be your family as long as you're married to your wife, so it's best to get along with them.
Also, you've taken big steps into adulthood - you're married and supporting yourself. Don't rely on someone else for financial support. Doing this will only make you less responsible. I've had a couple friends that have done this and it's almost like getting sucked in. They were so comfortable, and they enjoyed all the extra money, so they just stayed there for a while, but they weren't really happy.
Good luck.

First off I assure you that your sex life will suffer.Women are weird about having sex in their parents house.I did the same thing and moved my family in with my parents to put away for a house.I was tired of renting and paying someone elses mortgage. We stayed there 8 months and went into our own house. To be honest with you,You say you will only have to pitch in for food but her parents bills will go up.I promise that. They might say now that all you should pay is for food but don't be shocked when they charge you rent to cover the extra expenses. It will be a financial burden to them unless if they are loaded. If you must do this then do yourself a favor and have a second phone line installed for yourself.Pay half the cable bill and make sure your room has a television in it so you can spend quite time with your wife and watch the shows you both like to watch.Televisions create arguments. The phone bill will insure that you have a utility under your name.pay it on time! you will need all the credit refrences you can for an easy settlement on a huse when you are ready to buy.Lastly, do not forget that you are visitors in their house and set an approximate date to be back on your own. It's easy to get comfortable and forget why you moved in in the first place.Expect her parents to quiz you on how your savings are going. They will ask since they will want their home back to themselves sooner or later. Also have an agreement with her parents about when is a good time to possibly knock on the bedroom door and when isn't.Have an item close by like a plant.Keep it in the room when you are decent and not busy and place it in the hall when you need to be alone. It will save possible embarresing moments like maybe her father or mother knocking on the door while you two are knocking boots. You married their daughter so you should have no problem discussing this ida with them.Good luck.

Spending too much time around her parents is a good way to ruin a marriage. You're better off asserting your adulthood and independence by staying away from them! You can buy a house for little or no money down and save on income taxes for the next two years with a mortgage deduction.

if you get on great with them then a few ground rules would be a good thing to have BEFORE you move in.sort of like a contract....for instance I am NOT a morning person yet on the very few occasions I have stayed at my MIL house she waltz's into our bedroom at crack of bloody sparrow and then gets a humpty if I am not over joyed to see her...........which I am NOT...
Would there be one bath room that's yours and will only have you use it / clean it etc.
Kicking in for food is a bit hazy IMO..........have it where it is a set amount you give the MIL for food [make sure it is a good reasonable amount] are you going to eat together every night blah blah blah.....if so if you roll in at 8pm and hey have been holding dinner for you at 6.00pm sharp you are NOT going to be a popular person.
And the main thing IMO would be the lack of privacy.could you take 2 years of VERY VERY quiet sex
Last of all what is your wife like around them......does she take your side or do they baby her.......IF the baby her then I would run screaming for the deal as it might put such a strain on your marriage that it would not last 2 years............
It is a very VERY generous offer of them and would help you out a great deal BUT make sure to iron out everything BEFORE you move in and put your whole life at risk
Regards

Oh please, please re-think this one. You are an adult now and you dont need to live with her mom and dad.
My boyfriends daughter moved in with him for what was supposed to be a 3 month stent and she stayed almost a year and about drove us into war. She nosed in all our business, and listened outside the bedroom door while we were being intimate. She was filthy, never cleaned up after herself and became totally dependent on daddy to take care of her every whim. Its been 1 1/2 yrs since she moved out and he is still apologizing for her crap.
Dont think this will not happen to you. Save yourself a lot of grief with your wife and dont do it. She will end up becoming child like again and you will be ran over like a door mat.

DON'T DO IT !!!!!
This is one of the fastest ways to get a divorce you'll ever find.
You will be hounded day in and day out for not being conservative enough with your money. IE...save save save...do NOT do anything FUN while you live there.
ALL of your business, will be their business....

Well the money sounds great and all, but what they really are after is their little girl home! I am serious, if you wanna move to be closer to her family, move into your own place!

if they currently know and abide by the boundaries that are necessary to keep a relationship good than chances are good it will be ok. have a good sit down talk with them and write things down so there is nothing can come up later. SOUNDS GOOD IF YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM IS GOOD. like i said put it all on paper.
