My family and I just moved into a new house a little less than a month ago. The house was built approx. 2 years ago. I asked my mom about getting a better showerhead in the kid's bathroom and she said that wouldn't be a problem, but the Plumber's Tape is still going strong, so she can't get it out. Is there a way to dissolve it or anything with out ruining the chrome on the plumbing fixtures?

Plumbers tape is metal strapping about 5/8 of an inch wide and comes in rolls of 10 feet or so and is used for securing pipes . I think you are dealing with teflon tape. To remove the shower head wrap the chrome pipe it is screwed onto with tape so you won't scrarch it then use a pipe wrench to hold it while you unscrew the shower head.

The Teflon tape does not act as a glue. It's purpose is to help prevent leaks.

The old head is simply on there really tight. You need to use a wrench to loosen the old head. If you are worried about scratching the finish you can put some masking tape over it then use the wrench.

Plumber's tape is just a thin plasic you wrap around the pipes this just peals off. This isn't your problem they have used something else on the shower head. If it is plumbers blue glue this is very hard to undo once it's dried.

Had that problem once.
If it is the white tape, you will just have to pick at it till it unwinds.
Glue? Have no clue on that.
