Why is it so many people write a judgement when they are asked to write what they think? If you ask advice you don't want to be judged, so why is it that this seems to be the first instinct of many answer's on Y/A and in life? What makes us so judgemental and what can we do to to stop us judging before we have a chance to feel empathy?

could be there are several definitions of the word opinion and judgment in the dictionary, and the words could inadvertently cross paths. Or could be that the written word is in the eye of the beholder, they can choose which they think the response is whether it's a judgment or an opinion. And too, not everyone is well versed in responding, they just respond what they think of at the moment, for two points. In the "ology" fields a person is trained not to get deeply involved so therefore a response would not be coming from an empathatic point of view.

I think a fair amount of judgement is due to hubris; we assume that our way is right and fail to discern between advice and my way or the highway.

I think the best way to encourage empathy is starting with children, teach them to hear other's needs and imagine what the other person may be feeling. When I am trying to explain a personal situation to others and they are interjecting judgement and not advice I ask "can you understand why I would feel this way?" which can make them step back and consider things from my perspective.
