You don't actually have to be smart to be a valedictorian.

You just have to do lots and lots and lots of work.

And any/all extra credit your teachers offer.

And get into Honors/AP courses.

And yes, kiss a lot of teacher ***.

And then maybe, just maybe, you'll get recognized.

But only just a little bit.

You don't have to be the smartest kid. You just have to get the highest grade point average. You can do that by taking easy AP and honors courses (which is a misnomer, because no AP and honors courses are really easy, it's just that some are harder than others) and getting high grades in them. Becoming valedictorian may mean that you will have to study a lot throughout high school.

But don't just do this because you want to make your parents proud. Just do your best and try to make very good grades.

Also, to emphasize that being the valedictorian (which means getting the highest grade point average) does not mean that you are the smartest, I'll provide an example. I had a higher GPA then some of the brightest kids in my magnet school (some of them were National Merit Scholarship winners--I certainly am not that smart). Some of my friends were so smart that they could do a ton of activities while taking and getting high grades in 6 hard AP classes in one year. I barely pulled off my five APs (even though most of them were easier than my friends' courses) with the top grades while doing a couple of activities. Even though I had a higher GPA than my friends did, there was no way I was as smart as they were--I wouldn't have had to put nearly as much time into my easier courses if I had been as smart as they were.

The first aspect is that the valedictorian is the student with the highest grade point average for the four years fo high school. Since many student carry a perfect A all the way thru high school, if you are already in high school and have not carried a perfect average so far you have no chance. You dont have to be valedictorian to make your parents proud. They love you for who you are, just try to do your best and be the best person you can be and they will be very proud of you.

Different schools have different ways of choosing valedictorians. In some schools, it is the highest mark in final year. In other schools, a student is chosen by the student body. In other schools, it is staff that chooses the valedictorian according to a student's marks, extra-curricular activities, community work, attitude, etc. Find out the criteria in your own school, and start working at it early.

Pass all your classes with 100% and you will be a shoe in for Valedictorian.

Bust your tail to make good grades. Valedictorian is the one with the highest grade average.

Don't do it for your parents--do it for yourself. Even if you try and only get in the top 10, you are writing a ticket to college.

Your parents love you and are proud of you no matter what. Just remember to tell them that you love them once in a while.

instead of wasting a class period on PE, take a sport afterschool or do the PE requirements during the summer when Honors/AP courses aren't offered, and do get rid of any stupid requireemnts out of the way, like if you need a basic science before getting into biology, then do it over the summer.

take the highest courses that you are able to do well in, get the grades, do extra activities, community service, and help out with any local groups.....even if you do things out of school if you get proof of you doing it and give it to your school it can help you out....but why try to empress ur parents by that doing the best you can do should be enough for them
