Mind outside brain?
For me the mind is the activity of the "brain."
The "brain" is what science calls the cerebrum, the largest and youngest part of the "brain."

When the "brain" waves are calmed, slowed, to the alpha state (8 Hertz), intuition arises and all healing may take place. The genius creates in alpha and below.

When the "brain" waves are between 8 and about 44 Hertz, we are in a beta state, which is our daily life mind activity, with worries and calculations. Above the beta state is the gamma state, which is anger!

Below the alpha state, which is peace without worries, are the theta state and the delta state, as well as the state of the mirror waves: there the "brain" appears to be dead, yet, it is a state of deep meditation and greatest insights. The state of the saints and masters.

Why would the "brain" have to be calmed to reach the state of the genius and of healing, if the "brain" with its mind activities would be the only seat of intelligence? We quiet the mind and reach highest intelligence!

May it be assumed that what is called "the brain" may hinder intelligence? For "the brain" has to be calmed to reach higher intelligence!

May it be assumed, if above observations and conclusions are correct that creatures with less "brain" have more intellience? Well, no other creature is destroying its home planet like we humans do.

May be we have to redefine the common meaning of "mind" and "brain?"

Thanks for your great question! Cordially, India.Magica

I recommend you to read "Mans search for meaning." This will give you very clear answers concerning your question. It is a little book from Viktor Frankl. You can order this very cheap on Amazon.

The mind has a lot to do with the brain. If you see humans as three dimensional: somatic (body), psychic (mind), and noetic (spirit) you will discover that also animals have a psychic (mind) dimension.
Our psychic (mind) dimension involves thinking, recognition, emotions, thoughts, feelings, memory, and other cognitive functions.
Conscience however (the spiritual aspect) is not part of our psychic (mind) level. It exists on the noetic (spiritual) level.
So our spiritual aspect involves conscience, the freedom to strive for truth, to take a stand toward something, and to evaluate our stand. It also involves our search for meaning and the spiritual aspect in us has nothing to do with our brain and is even there in people suffering severe brain damage.

I believe consciousness can exist without the physical body. The reasoning mind uses the brain but is only a part of our consciousness.
Read something by Sylvia Brown or just about any renowned psychic/medium. Our physical state is only one state of being, there are more.

IN JOY has got it down. Don't think I could explain it better than that.

I believe the mind and the brain are distinct & seperate from eachother. Do you think of yourself as a brain? Or do you HAVE a brain?

A great book to read is "The Mind's I" composed and arranged by Douglas R. Hofstadter and Daniel C. Dennett.

"the mind", first of all, is not owned.
it is sort of rented.
and it is not,
rather it is of.

the mind is a portal to what has been called the "collective consciousness": a soup of thoughts and insights that all beings everywhere are sharing. your "mind" is the connection to this soup of consciousness.

your thoughts also escape ownership, they are just what is being extracted through this portal that is the mind. what is extracted is entirely up to you. at the wheel of the mind is "the observer". and it is the observer that chooses what to extract. this "observer" is what has become know to some as a soul.

now, here is the fun bit.
our collective minds and their experience of the collective consiosness soup, completely shapes our reality: locally, regionally, nationaly, globally, and universally.

we have no idea how powerful our mind is or even the mind of a chipmunk, or a protozoa!!

we are collectively creating everything, in every moment with this tool that is our portal to possibility.

your brain is just this thing in your head.
your mind is everywhere at all times
both infinite and eternal

now.....
what will you do with your mind???.....

I believe that conciousness (the mind) and the brain both co-exist and conciousness survives even when the brain is dead.
