my toilet is stopped up. i poured in bleach, which usually works, but it didn't help. i bought a drain opener that forces air through the toilet, and i'm worried that there will be some bad reaction with the bleach.

Not a chemical reaction but it could spray bleach back st you. Wear safety glasses and be prepared to wash off any thing that gets on your skin.

Household bleach is made by reacting chlorine gas with sodium hydroxide in water. The mixture has a high pH and a strong active chlorine level. If you mix only air into the bleach, very little will happen. However if you mix CO2 in with the bleach it will want to form a scale called sodium carbonate. If you repeated this to excess, you would form a lot of scale on the inside of the toilet and the downstream piping.

Using the "forced air" opener should cause no problems, but you need to wear eye protection or a face shield to keep from splashing the bleach liquid into your eyes and mouth.

I would suggest that you use drano or an equivalent drain cleaner and keep the lid down overnight to allow the cleaner to clear the line. Afterward you can use a plunger to help it along, but don't forget eye protection until after the system is free of bleach and/or drain cleaner.

if it is common air then no sweat.. If it is actually Oxygen, I wouldn't chance it.. CO2 should not be an issue.. Remember both Chlorine and Oxygen are highly reactive so it is best to keep them apart.
