It began about a week, or so ago. The fish was always strange. Swimming up & down the glass as if looking at it's reflection. So when it began swimming very oddly, I didn't think much at first. The poor fish was SPINNING very fast on it's "beak", and did this non-stop, as well as some other seemingly uncontrolled movements, and dives. Like I said, it did this for a week, and progressivly got "worse", much less active, and eventually just completely handicapped in it's abilities. He died today. I had him a few months now, with no real problems. I didn't change his diet, or environment or tank mates. Any clue?

Alright ive owned some of these and they are by far one of the most active fish ive owned.

They need A LOT of space the reason he was going up and down on his reflection is because he needed more space. He does this when he is bored waht i did was move around the decorations so he would think he is a different space.

Also they need BRACKISH water not FRESH water, this could also be a cause since your puffer could have caught a disease that he would not normaly get in a brackish environment.

Can you provide additional information such as:

-What kind of water? -Needs brackish

-What was his diet? -Crunchy foods and some protein.

-How big was the tank? - Only one needs about 29g+

-How big was he? -If more than 2" he really needs brackish water and could have caused his death. They can live in fresh water if they are under 2"

G is right, slightly incoherent, but right. It sounds like a water quality problem. The other possibility could be improper handling, some people net the fish and frighten them so they puff up, filling with air is usually fatal. The puffing defense is not a parlor trick,it's a last ditch try to avoid being eaten.

more than likely water condition -- fish do better in clean water contrary to most peoples beliefs you just add water and let them go.

you can learn how to maintain water condtion through cycling and estabishling biological filtration in your tank and weekly cleanings with a few quick and easy searches on the internet.

srry to hear about your GSP the only thing i can think of is that its restless the way the water condition is since they are sensitive to thing of that. matter try check its amonia and nitrite and look at the fish if there is any kind of strange marks on it.
