The monitor ICON in windows systray just tells you if the ethernet is connected to something else does not tell you if the internet is functioning properly.

The problem you are having sounds like someone didnt open your game ports on the router.

www.portforward.com

you will need the brand/model of router
you will need supervisor access to router for changes
the changes are listed by application
IE you want to play Diablo2 it tells what ports are needed
for server connection and UDP multiplayer

If you dont have a Router in the system (some are modem with internal router all DSL some CABLE)
IF you do have a Cable modem without router in system
then
START button
Control Panel
Network Connections
Pick the active Internet Connection
Right click choose Properties
Bytes IN and Bytes OUT will be displayed
if there is Traffic and you can't open the IE and get
a website like google or yahoo etc
CALL YOUR CABLE COMPANY
your PC does not have permission to use the modem

Well first of all, you should contact your ISP and inform them that you are having "a few" connection issues. I had this problem a while back and it turns out that the browser was not installed correctly and the ISP was having a few technical issues as well. If you do not want to contact them right away you can open control panel and investigate the problem by opening Network Connections or Internet Options. Please feel free e-mail me with questions as this may be caused by a variety of other problems or computer conflicts.

could be a difficulty with the two the internet browser, your antivirus or the firewall. attempt disabling the two the firewall (from administration panel) or disabling your anti-virus and attempt traveling internet content. If the two dont paintings, then from internet thoughts, inspect the LAN settings button and disable any verify marks against proxy server which would be enabled and attempt lower back. it is going to paintings. it is going to be considered one of those 3 issues which would be combating you from traveling the internet.
