A hand held device that would let you input your age, country, income, weight, height, education and estimated wealth, then rank your position in the world. Why would this be a benefit to society? Because those who could afford this simple device could see in an instant how lucky they were in comparison to the vast majority of the world and stress less about what they think they don't have or need to get by.
