After power returned i tried starting the engine and it lost power again. Is there a fuse or something about the battery that causes this to happen. Should I replace with another battery? It has the original harley davidson battery in it. Its a 2005 harley davidson sportster.

I had the same problem. I have a custom and it turned out that the fuse was right under the seat and when I was accelerating the seat pan was shorting out the fuse. A few seconds later I heard a snap and the bike would start again, just to do it over and over. I relocated the fuse and have no problems sense. Good luck Brotha, I hope this helps

I had a similar problem but it was on a completely different kind of bike. But it turned out for me, it was the CDI going out. Eventually my problem got worse and worse and then it wouldn't start at all. I bought a ne CDI and it started right up and never had a problem again. Hope this helps.

sounds like a short. Your check the main fuse. it over heated and popped, then resett once it cooled.
