I have been having contractions since 10 this morning and it is now 8 30 PM. They are now about 15 to 20 minutes apart. When should I go to the hospital? I didn't think I would be waiting this long. Is it ok that it has taken this long? I feel like since I have been having them for so long I should go in. They are more intense now, the past 4 hours they have been more intense and my back kills when I have one. My belly gets very hard I know they are contractions. Just wondering when I should go in.

When contractions are coming in a constant consecutive pattern PLEASE GO TO THE HOSPITAL!!!! Mine were 20 mins apart and 4 hours later I had my baby.

So if you're feeling unwell for that long, you should have already gone to the hospital. Best of luck to you. And be safe!

Go in when they are about 5-10 minutes apart. If you're nervous, call an on-call nurse and they can help you and give you advice. When I went into labor, I woke up at 9 am feeling crampy and spent most of the day with the contractions 10-15 minutes apart (I didn't want to admit it at the time; I thought I was having gas!). The contractions got more intense (to the point I couldn't sleep) around 9ish; I called the nurse at 1 am, who told me to call back when they are 5-10 minutes apart. That took about 45 minutes. I arrived at the hospital at 2:33 am and had my son at 8 am. A good way to tell that you're probably ready to go in is if you can't concentrate on anything else and you have to stop walking or talking when the contractions come.

You should go whenever you feel you should because you know your body better than anyone else. But some things they told me when I had my boys is wait until the contractions are 3-5 minutes apart. They also said when your water breaks is a good time but mine never did. If you have lost your mucas plug you have anywhere from 1 day to a week before going into labor. Is it close to your due date? If not you could be experiencing Braxton Hicks which is basically fake labor. As far as it taking so long, if this is your first child they tend to take longer, with my oldest son I was in labor for 24 hours and 15 minutes and I waited 15 hours to go to the hospital. Basically until the pain was unbareable. But you do whats right for you and the safety of your baby. Congrats and good luck.

When they are about 5 minutes apart or so, BUT i would give them a call because they might want to check you over and see how far dilated you are. If you arnt dilating hardly at all but contractions are getting worse then they may want to give you something to speed up the contractions OR (this happened to a friend of mine) you might just continue to get contractions but only dilate to a certain amount and they might have to do a c-section. Just a possibility.
Also, if your back is killing you with every contraction your baby could be posterior and you may need the dr to check him and see how hes doing.
Goodluck, i wish you all the best with the birth of your baby =)

My doctor told me they had to be 5 minutes apart for an hour, or if your water breaks. You have been having it a long time, so you may want to call and ask them. Mine started at noon and I went to the hospital at 6:00 pm, and with my second I was induced. Good luck and congratulations!!

Now would be the time to go it doesn't hurt to wait this long, I say that because they usually want you to wait until they are at least 5 min apart before you come in but, if you are going to use pain meds you might as well go on in congratulations

you are supposed to wait until they are four or five minutes apart and you can no longer talk through them...but if you are at all nervous about what is happening to you, then just go to the hospital and get checked out, if they can see that you are still far off but that you are doing good they can send you home anyway but then your mind will be more at ease.

Go ahead and call your doctor and let him/her know that you having been having them, how long they last, and how far apart they are. You will probably go in when they are about 5 minutes apart.

You should go when they're about 5 minutes apart, or if your water breaks go right away.
