Run through this on the below link. The other thing you may or may want to check is the cleaning reservoir. It may be clogged.

With most printers you are required to have ink in both the black and color ink cartridges in order to print in black as they work in conjunction with each other. So you will need to have the both color and black ink cartridges with ink, the same thing applies for color. In the printer driver, there is an option for "gray scale" printing. That should use only the black cartridge , but you also will need a usable color cartridge installed for that option as some color ink is also used.

hey jack heard you have a problem with your printer. how long have you been out of ink before changing the cartridges? the reservoir maybe clogged, if it is you have to clean it, very hard to do, or it could be a faulty cartridge. did you try selecting the color codes of yellow and black. maybe you have another color selected. try these steps first if it don't work take it to a service center or go online to epson where they can help you with step by step instructions. hope this helps. bye. sincerely, fire and ice

Hi :)

Is this model an old one? Cartridges and their placeholders (where you feed them on your printer) are fine electrical components. Make sure you have bought genuine cartridges, and that your printer isn't a WWII surviver.

If it's a new, or rather new printer, take it to a service center and ask Epson to have it checked for you.

If it worked prior, do change both cartridges again. May be a defect. If this is a new printer, you may need to be an admin on your pc. Dont ask. Long answer :)
