Then y'all ***** when the weather doesn't come out as planned. Why not just watch us every now and then so you'll know? We have to forecast 500 Mile regions and that one person in this house on 1% of it wants to ***** because they didn't ge the weather. That's why we have th eprobabilities, but you people are too good for those, huh?

Exactly my point. You live in the Mountains. I may have to forecast for all of D.C. or Richmond or Alexandria or whatever regions. Just plan for whatever weather we tell y'all. Beyond that, YOU'RE IN THE MOUNTAINS. YOU NEVER GET ANYTHING! if we say it's a 40% chance, then that could be ANYWHERE or two or three places at once in the whole D.C. region or whatever while the other areas stay dry. So technically, we did get our weather right for someone.

People shouldn't be hating on meteorologists, they don't make the weather, they predict it based on science. Not only that but have helped to save lives in tracking major storms that could be life threatening and warning the public in advance of major storms.
I start my day listening to what the forecast is, especially in bad weather.
Meteorologists Rock!

I like watchinng as many weather people as possible. I turn in on radio, listen to NOAA Weather Radio, watch TV weather, the TWC, follow all sorts of forcecasts. In Chicago, we recently had 2 or 3 high risk forecasts for severe weather and on one episode, it didn't even rain here! It's global climat change, not meteorologists that are in error, that makes it seem they are wrong more than 50% of the time/ Like today, Iowa had flooding rainfall amounts when the Chicago and Millwaukee areas were in a high risk severe weather prediction catagory. Then it was supposed to be winds of 5 to 10 mph. I went fishing yesterday. The winds were near 20 to 30 mph. Though, the forecast was for little or no winds. It's not the fault of the weather people. It's definatly, a problem with our world's climate change that is seemingly changing weather to not even be close to what is forecasted. Our weather is messed up, and it's going to be even less predictable in the future, I believe. It's not forecasters being at fault. We can't predict what are earth happenings. A volcano could erupt in Miami, or a blizzard could hit the equater. We'll never know exactly. Weather forecasts are almost like predicting the future based on data, but, we can't predict what happens exactly. Forgive the weather forecasters. They are only human, not all-knowing, psychics, who know everything that WILL happen,

Most adults don't like being treated like children and almost every weather guesser on TV does just that. Talk to us like we actually know what a "cold front" is and see if there is a difference in your acceptance.
On the accuracy question, it is common knowledge that just forecasting continuity will give you 60% accuracy, so don't start whining about how hard it is to get it right.
Try using better terminology, "mixed sun and cloud" on an average summer day with mild convective activity would better be described as "clouds developing during the day".
And then just get a thicker skin, if you think you are going to make everyone happy you should be working in a candy factory.

when I listen to NOAA weather, they tell me what is happening,
NOAA weather example:
there is a system coming in from the west Sunday morning and will pass by sometime Tuesday, but it will likely not drop any water in the low lying areas.
Meteorologist version:
it will be slightly overcast with no chance of rain.
when it rains Sunday night a little,
if I had listened to the NOAA I would be kind of expecting it, and would have planned for it.
if I had listened to the Meteorologist version I would just be annoyed and unprepared.
give people more detailed data, they can take it.
and you might try learning some more climatology, I think that the thought processes climatologists use are closer to how most people think.

i would like to see those people predict the weather. tell them to learn all that calculus, physics and atmospheric science classes. then maybe they will see how it is and stop complaining.
p.s. i can't wait to be a meteorologist :)
