As my old creative writing professor once told me, "try to stay away from rhyming it's your master not your friend." Translation, you don't have to rhyme all the time (rhyme there not intended) try using off rhyme schemes, remember a poem does not always need to rhyme, poetry is as much about rythmn and meter as it is about rhyme scheme. After you write a poem read it out loud to yourself and you'll be surprised at how fast you can evaluate it before it is submitted to others. That being said, keep writing; poetry is a far too under appreciated art form in today's society.
