1 square yard is 9 square feet. 3 ft X 3 ft = 9 ft sq.
Just divide sq. ft. by 9

When pouring concrete, the thing to keep in mind is that you buy concrete by the cubic yard. That is one yard wide, by yard long, and one yard deep. If you put this in cubic feet it would be 27 cubic feet.

So lets assume you have a slab or patio that you want to pour 6 inches thick. That is 1/2 foot. And assume for illustration that the patio or slab is 10feet by 8 feet.

That means you have 10x8x1/2 or 40 cubic feet. Divide that by 27 and you get 1.48 yards of concrete.

making a cement slab is actually determining cubic feet. Example 10 ft x 12 ft x 3" deep is:
10x12=120 120 x .25 ( 3" is 1/4 ft) total cubic feet is 30 for the above example.
ordinary sq yards 10 x 12 = 120 divide by 9 = 13.33 sq yards

Jesus Christ, this ain't rocket science, and most of you need to go back to school. One cubic yard of concrete, sand, water, Jello, whatever is 3 ft by 3 ft by 3ft (3x3x3, or 27).

To determine cubic yards of concrete for a slab, multiply the length times the width times the depth (thickness). Three inches thick is .25, 4 inches thick is .33, five inches thick is .41, six inches thick is .5.

When you multiply LxWxH, divide by 27 (3x3x3=27), that's cubic yards. That's all you need to know.

Twenty feet long by 20 ft wide by 4 inches thick is: 20x20=400 x.33=132 divided by 27 = 4.88 cubic yards.

18'6 1/4" by 13'2 7/8" by 5 11/16" is: 18.502 x 13.0187 x .4168 = 100.39 div by 27 = 3.71 cubic yards. See, you can do it with any number, fraction, etc. If all your measurements are in inches, divide by 46656 (cubic inches in one yard).

krn101 is wrong in his own example (it would be 1.11 cu yds). AlittleAbout.... is so far out there, he's just whack. Don't do anything but miltiply LxWxH divide by 27. None of that crap about dividing each number by 3, or whatever the hell he was talking about. I'm the guy that calls and orders the concrete for 30,000 sq ft + buildings, including column piers, continuous footers, slabs, machine pads, etc. My calculations are final on the job and that's what gets dispatched from the concrete plant. Give me ANY dimensions, and I can tell you how many cubic yards it will take using the calculator on my watch. The rest of those answers are just plain dumb.

HOLD UP EVERYBODY.. Look at the question.. this person is building a slab foundation.. you do not want area you want volume.. you need to determine the CUBIC yards of concrete you want to pour..? That seems to be the issue..
Each person has had a different slant at this but essentially are correct... there are 3 feet per yard so for each axis you need to measure divide the feet by three to figure out the yardage. For example if your foundation is 9 feet by 9 feet divide each number by 3 and you get 3 yards by 3 yards which is 9 SQUARE yards.. Obviously this was simplistic but in cases where the length is not divisible by 3 , you get a decimal or fractional equivalent.
THEN if you are trying to find the cubic yards you need to determine the depth of the concrete you want to lay.. typical is 4 or 6 inches.. that would be 0.333 feet or 0.5 feet. respectively.. then divide that number by 3 to get yards.. which is either 0.111 yards or 0.167 yards.. Multiply that number by the 3 square yds above and that comes back to the numbers we had since in this case by coincidence we divided by three and multiplied by three so you end up with 0.111 or 0.167 cubic yards of concrete..
(Note for reference thre are 27 cubic feet of concrete in a cubic yard.. Length * width * depth = 3*3*3=27
Sorry didn't scroll down enough to see krn's answer .. he caught it too.

To get square feet multiply length by width. If it is 12 by 10 feet you will do 12x10= 120 square feet. To convert to square yards divide by three 120 divide by 3 = 40 square yards. Hope this helps

Concrete calculation is 3ft x 3ft x 4in or 6in
when you buy the concrete mix there is big con tense of use age concrete in store .If you want make your self formula is 3 unit sand 2 unit cement and 1 unit water. For each 3'x3'x4"
minimum need 2 bags.

feet is a measure of length
square yard is a measure of lenght and width
since feet has no width it can not be done.

If you mean square feet to square yards as an area, then one square yard equals 9 square feet.
