That way, the characteristics, whether disease causing (such as G6PD deficiency) or benign (colour-blindness) are suppressed in females, (due to one of the X chromosomes always being inactive in each cell) and activated in males. This is an evolutionary "thank you" from females for all the troubles we cause them.
The Y chromosome does not carry as many genes as X chromosomes.

it depends on which sex you are talking about...for the female it is the XX chromosome...and for the male it is the XY chromosome...
