Have we gone too far the materialistic way as a country?

Are we 'desiring' ourselves into a self made crisis through global warming and dangerous personal financial debt and loss of the important things in life as a nation?

Do you really need to live in a 6,000 sq ft $300,000 home and drive a $40,000 vehicle that pollutes the air and buy your kids everything they want?

How can we bring perspective back to our country?

We live in a world where half the women are dieting and the other half are starving.....something's wrong there!!!!

You need to talk to your buddy Al Gore, who has an energy bill of over $30,000 per year and flies in private jets to give his global warming speeches.

Hypocrites.

Some wanting is okay and normal, but I definately agree that nobody needs to live in a mansion or drive an expensive car, or have waterford crystal, or own a yaught, etc. I think that we should all live more simply so that others may simply live. There would be nothing wrong with having more than you need, if everyone else was at least comfortable. But, I really don't know how some of these people can live with themselves, and justify having so much, when others are starving and homeless and going without even the basic comforts in life. The only way that anyone could possibly justify such conditions, is if they hold to the attitude that they are better than others, and the attitude that if some people are poor, or economically challenged, then they deserve to be poor, or economically challenged, or that they are just lazy or whatever. I have seen so much of that kind of selfishness on this forum, and I know that it has to reflect the attitudes of many in the real world, too, or such conditions would not be allowed to continue. This is a thing that is too big for a few individuals to change...Society as a whole must decide to change their beliefs about who and what we are, and who and what God is, and how we all relate to God!

By the way, please don't take what I am about to say as a criticism, because I realize you have probably not been exposed to this particular information, but you should really know, that in many cases, the real causes of over weight are not over eating, but rather things such as stuff they put in the food to intentionally make people fat, and other things that are too numerous to mention here. It is criminal the things the food industry does, in this country. There is lots of information out there, and I think you might find this information fascinating to research. This is just one more of the wrongs that we need to fight to make right in this country.

If you are interested in learning more, there is lots of good information out there, but a good start would be, all of Kevin Trudeau's books, and the documentary called Super Size Me! *sm*

Do I need everything I want? No.

America's consumer society is the ultimate enticement, seduction. You're "free" to amass as much wealth as you can, you're "free" to surround yourself with material goods and "free" to indulge in whatever addiction you like. Obviously, food is a big one...

A little moderation never hurt anyone.

We delude ourselves to blame our personal and social problems on "things," when the real issue is just a lack of self-control.

Nationally, consumers owed $750.9 billion in credit card debt at the end of 2002.

The average consumer carries about $8,000 in credit card debt each year.

Wants and needs are 2 different things, There is a saying "May yours needs be many, and your wants be few." I dont require wants as a force for living. The acquirement of material goods isnt the driving force in my life.

The material goods are only to make our life easier, not be an end to themselves.

I agree. I think we have our priority's really backwards in our Country, when it comes to things like: Police, Firefighters, Teachers and Soldiers making so little and sports figures making millions per game. I think it is wrong that we see so much waste, like at buffets, and there are people starving outside the building. Nearly every Casino in Las Vegas uses Styrofoam plates and cups, which results in literal mountains of non- recyclable and non-biodegradable trash. I drive myself crazy sometimes dwelling on the irony's and injustices. I can hear the "Conservatives" labeling me a Socialist, but I really am not, I just care about injustice and waste and its effect on people.

Yes we live in a material world. I want that is probably the phrase i hear most often. you can't stop another person from doing something but you can't set a good example and try to make a difference

I'm relatively poor--make about $13,000 per year, live with my daughter and grandchild, rent, and do not have a car---and I will still say that I want a lot more than I need!! (But, I'm fat and I don't diet--I'm fine just the way I am!!!!)

You're right, and it's really sad that people only seem to be worried these days about impressing other people--with what they wear, what they drive, the house they live in, etc, etc. People, and especially their children, are spoiled ROTTEN, and they have forgotten what is important in life and where happiness comes from, because if you can't find it in your heart, you certainly will never find it at Macy's Saks or anywhere else. It comes from within. If only everyone out there knew that.

I already have everything I want.

I don't need everything I want, but that doesn't mean that I won't take it. Do we need clothes? No, of course not. Do we need televisions, telephones, a motor vehicle? No we don't. But it doesn't mean that it's wrong if we do.

But I do agree that some people go way too far in terms of what they want to own.

I'll take 10!!

As to the rest of your dribble, blah, blah, blah. Same old bed wetting Liberal horse s*@t.
