i have a laptop w/ comcast internet.. can i get internet anywhere if i get a wireless card from like cingular?

a wireless card from like cingular or sprint would make your isp thru them while using your card. so yes anywhere you can get their wireless service you can get net access

Here's what I think you really want to know: No, Comcast does not offer Internet when you are away from their cable lines (that is, away from home). If you follow the advice given here and get access through your cell provider (Sprint, Cingular, etc.), then you don't need Comcast.

Wireless broadband card from like cingular and their edge network has nothing to do with your home internet access. You pay Cingular $49.99/mo or whatever and that card will give you internet access, and it's just like your cellphone so it works where ever there is Cingular broadband connection. Same would be true w/ Verizon or Sprint. Personally I prefer Sprint because they use CDMA and already rolling out Rev A.

You will have to get a wireless card and a service provider for (wi-fi) (Cingular,Sprint,Verizon, T-mobile?) and then you just pay that companys monthly fee and you get internet on your laptop where ever when ever.. Then again if you have a cell phone contract already with t-mobile you can use your phone with your computer if you have a phone that can be used a modem (higer end phones)

The card is basicly just an antina that picks up a signal from a router in the area that is transmitting a signal, the card picks it up and passes the info you your pc. Its like a walki talki. If you are out in the country you will not be near a router giving off a signal so your card will have nothing to pick up. For this, you would have to use a cell phone to get your internet, and thats only if there is a cell signal in that particular area. As far as just a card, most laptops produced in the last few years have WIFI already built in.

If your computer has an internal wireless card you can get access to it at most places like libraries for free. If you get a wireless card you can get internet access to anywhere. Your wireless provider will give you a map of the coverage area. If I may, I'd recommend Verizon Wireless if you have it in your area. They have the best coverage. I've been with Verizon for over 4 yrs now. My card comes up for renewal in September. I hope this helps you!

if you get a cingular/att wireless card, you will be their cutomer wirelessly when you are away from home - in order to get wireless when you are at home, you need to attach a router with wireless capabilities to your cable modem so you can access internet from anywhere in your home - if you do this, enable wireless encryption so you dont get anyone hacking your wireless when you arent paying attention

Yes it is just like a cell call. You pay for the service just like you would for a cell phone. It works in a similar way and gives you Internet access.
