Hello, I have written many books, and have had some stories published, but I am interested in publishing some of my books. Can anyone please tell me how to get it published?

You start by querying literary agents. This is done with a one page letter describing yourself and your book. Sometimes the agent will request you include the first few pages or chapters, but that is an individual preference.

There are several websites out there that will help you find an agent, my favorite is QueryTracker.net at http://www.querytracker.net/ . It is free and has a list of literary agents and also tools to help you keep track of who you already queried and who you haven't, plus more.

They do a good job of keeping the crooks off their lists, but it is still a good idea to double check at http://www.sfwa.org/beware/twentyworst.h...

There are a lot of crooks out there. Never pay anyone to read or publish your book. A real agent will never ask for money except as a percentage of your royalties.

Keep in mind that finding an agent and getting published is not an easy process. Some people have to query hundreds of agents before they find one who will accept them (sadly, some never get accepted), but be persistent and keep trying.

You should also visit http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/,... one of the largest forums for writers. They can be very helpful.

Good luck.

Agents will not touch anything that is already Published (if it's a reputable company) niether will they publish things that have been put on the Internet. Synopsis's is okay but if you upload chapters then no. Also with self-publishing you have doomed yourself. Your book isn't getting anywhere so you write something else and approach an Agent. They want to know whether you have any matrerial Published, then they want to know whether it sold. Yours has not, they wonder why and wont accept your work. You need to ask why your work hasn't sold. Self-Publishing can make or break you and very often it breaks you, now you'll struggle to publish anything with your History. I can't urge people enough to check every angel of Publishing and in my honest opinion steer clear of Self-publishing. Sorry to give you only bad news, but it's not your book that wont be accepted but you as well. I can't even tell you what to do and you'll not get out of it I'm afraid. I'm not an Author myself I work for the 'Dark Side', people shouldn't be so afraid of Agents we don't bite that hard.

First get lots of stories published. Or chapters. Ask for a referral. Sometimes it's who you know that helps you get "in the door."

Go to a bookstore or library and see where your type of book is on the shelf and who publishes that type of book.

Send querie or chapter to those places.

Rule #1: Follow guidelines.

Never pay to have your book published. If you want to do that, then just go to your local printshop or Kinko's.

For publishers to pay you, submit query letters telling about your work, as if it is on a book jacket. You don't get long to catch their attention.

Join a writer's group. Have several copies of your story or chapter available for review during the group session.

Contrary to popular belief, writers don't steal your stories.

Again: FOLLOW GUIDELINES.

Good luck.

First of all, your book has to be really good. Ask some total strangers to read it without telling them that it is your book. If they praise it, then contact any publishing house and they will take a serious look at it. Don't trust family members and friends who tell you that your books are excellent and wonderful. They will never tell you the truth.

Here is a list of publishers:
http://archive.museophile.org/publishers/

You can send an entire manuscript or a sample chapter with a cover letter.

You could also hire a literary agent to do this, I guess.

Hope this helps!
