do you think it should be illegal to easily purchase "tank-buster" fish? i am particularly thinking of fish like pacus or any of those fish that grow to gargantuan size. i cannot imagine, except ignorance, why someone would get a pacu that can get three feet long. very few people have to money to keep these fish when they get to their adult size. i know several stores in my area that sell cute baby pacu that are like 6 inches long without any labels that says there size. i think that any animal like this you should have to get a special permit. what do you think?

yes i agree nicki...of course if these types of fish are illegal there isn't the chance for them to kill ecosystems.

I think it should be illegal to sell certain fish, such as the one's you are talking about at all. You can put Red-tailed catfish in this group as well as many others.

I would also put any dyed, painted, tattooed fish in that group.

You would have a hard time enforcing a permit based system in my opinion, but if they were just illegal, then it would be much easier to enforce.

I think people need permits to breed. Going to happen? Nope.

As for the monster fish I do think that accurate info regarding their adult size and proper care is a must. Petsmart has Giant Pacu for sale with a tag that says it needs 30g tank. Same size tank was listed for all the big fish, like oscars, common plecos and an Irridescent shark. These fish would suffer and die a slow death in a 30g tank.

I dont mind buying big fish including kois, but but i highly recommend that they should put the fish adult size

To tell the truth i dont think you need a permit to buy a small fish thats gonna get big. Even if they get big in the aquarium after 1 year or so they are not gonna get bigger even if you put them in a pond. I was shocked to see something like that today when my school cleaned out the pond and finding out that they have the exactly same size and type of common giant pleco that i have.

The problem is not the pet stores, most do inform the customers of the future size...infact many stores have large fish in their show tanks....The problem I see, is that once they outgrow the tank...people are putting them in our rivers and streams...that can actually wipe out various types of fish in our eco system...

*The fish dont need to be illegal for them to mess up our eco system...Take an 14 inch oscar that is put in a river...Catfish in river spawn, Oscar eats eggs and though a catfish is nothing put a scavenger...he helps keep our rivers cleans of debris...:)

Well, I don't think it should be illegal, but I think the pet stores should make it clear to buyers that those fish can grow to a huge size (even though ppl should research a fish before buying it anyways).

Not a special permit to buy, but it should be clearly posted what their adult size will be on the tank in the pet store.

absolutely not, it is not thee governments &#$^@!^ job to baby sit us like 3 year olds, no no you dont need this you could hurt your self little one. caveat emptor in my opinion. yes full adult size should be listed, hiding the truth is the same as lying, but crying to big brother for every &%#@*&% problem you have is not the answer, be an adult and learn to fend for your self instead of running to mommas tit everytime somethign doesnt go your way. according to that infomercials should be banned. ok this is going way off topic here but me and my wife watched a dr phil the other day about people who were being scammed for hundreds by ads claiming they could talk to dr phil...in my opinion if your that dumb to send your last $700 to someone in the back of a national inquire you deserve it.

point in a nutshell, people lie, cheat and mask the truth about things but crying about it is no solution, if you see someone trying to by one, imform them that they get 3' and a 10g is in no way appropiate, but a law!?!? now my family did have a poet store for a while, we did not sell ANY FISH that gre to be over 1' and we let people know that they got that big, we refused to order arrowannas, and peed alot of folks off by not stocking oscars, ect but we did what we thought was right, yuo want a solution to those stores, let thme know they get that big, if they dont care, dont shop there, end of story.

sorry to get so long winded and step up on the biggest soapbox i could find.

agreed nikki...look at florida
