On what basis does the government believe that it defines marriage?
Read your Constitution, Kelly. Particularly the Tenth Amendment: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
Marriage is defined by churches. It is a church institution, not a government one. If you want to call it something else when Bill and Ray live together, go ahead...but do not ask for endorsement as a marriage.
As Abe Lincoln said, "How many legs has a dog if you call a tail a leg? Five? No, four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg."
Having said that, I will suggest that the church, in defining marriage, has no right to define beneficiaries, or visitation, or home ownership, or employee benefits. Those definitions rest with governments or employers or businesses or people.

People will make it their business because they fear what they don't know. Yes, some use religion as an excuse, but religion is not a fact to anyone. It is a belief.
Then you have the people who don't want it around their kids. It is around their kids in school, and on TV. Every 4th grader knows what gay is. Just turn on "will and grace".

It should only be our business if we are 1 of the 2 people getting married
If you don't believe in gay marriage don't have one
This is the same crap right wingers do with every advance in our society
I'm old enough to remember "whites only"
And when the different races couldn't date without fear of a public beating or worse
Conservatives have always, always, always been wrong...on every single issue. They always side with hate
and the gay marriage issue is no exception

And abortion goes down that same line but we don't do abortions in public. Just something to think about. On the other hand if we quit making homosexuality so taboo and allow them the freedom they desire maybe teens won't feel like it's the new fad or the in thing to do. I know this to be true for a fact. I think it is our own morals that we have to keep in check.

It isn't any of our business and it doesn't affect my marriage relationship one bit.
Besides, any relationship that lasts 7-8 years is ahead of the game; that's the average time period for 50% of first-time heterosexual marriages.

Because most of the social problems in this country in the last 40 years or so are directly proportionate to the breakdown of the family. The traditional family structure is under enough pressure without having this garbage thrust down our throats at every turn.
Homosexuality is NOT normal. If was, you would see gay squirrels. Homosexuality is not healthy. Having said that, what two consenting adults do in their own home is their business as long as they are not hurting anyone, but we do not have to acknowledge deviant behavior as normal or correct so as not to offend someone. And we sure as hell shouldn't be teaching our kids that it is ok.
As an endnote, if anyone really believes that homosexuality is anything BUT a choice, that person is both naive and foolish.

Look, most of us dont give a rats behind what your SEXUAL PREFERENCE IS,the problem is they dont know how to keep it in the bedroom. Those of us who are not homosexual dont even go around telling the world about what goes on in the bedroom, what makes the gays think anyone cares??But no,they have to have gay parades almost naked, shove thier sexuality down our throats.Geez enough is enough.Even the porn industry isnt as flambouant as the homosexual community.Thats what its all about, you dont want scrutiny, keep it in the darn bedroom.

I don't care if they marry as long as it's a civil service & not a religious one.
No matter how you define it, we do pass ourselves off as a Christian Nation & this type of relationship goes against Christian teaching.
I have no problem with homosexual relationships, just don't shove it in my face! But then, I don't like to see any type of relationship being too blatant in public!

IT ISNT!!!
We need to learn to except it and not descriminate against it!
Its just like the whole civil rights issue again, but now its not because of race or gender, but of preferrance!!! Dont people know by now that discrimination is WRONG!! that EVERY one is equal and has the right to marry whoever they want!!!!

It doesn't bother me if they get married- or not. What bothers me is when homosexuality is taught to be "Normal" behavior. It is a fact that homosexuality is a part of nature but it isn't normal. Normal means "the norm" or average.
