I will be in San Francisco later this summer. Does anyone know the walking distance and how long it would take to walk from the northeast side of the bridge (Golden Gate Vista Point) to the northwest side (Battery Spencer)?

Can I make a suggestion? If you want a GREAT afternoon - instead of walking, rent a bike (e.g. Bay City Bike Rentals (www.baycitybike.com) near Fisherman's Wharf. Ride down the marina, past Fort Point and onto the Golden Gate Bridge, over to the other side. The bike path is wide and easy. Coast downhill into Sausalito and then take the ferry back! It will take you 2-3 hours (a perfect afternoon) and you'll get to see a lot more than you would have on foot. On the Bay City Bike website, they have a video of this ride, as well as a longer one which goes all the way to Tiburon........ I've done the Sausalito run before (on my own bike) - and it was great fun.......

As said, it's about 1 1/2 miles (each way). And contrary to the above post, it is not closed.

If you only want to walk one way, you can take a Golden Gate Transit bus over the bridge and walk back.

It's 1 3/4 miles approx.
It can be windy and cold, sometimes foggy or drizzly, of course that's SF, even or especially in summertime -- Wear/ bring layers and a wind breaker.
