Recently, I had a job offer that was more money (25% + more)and promotion. Because of greed of getting more money than the original offer, I held back. Because of my mistake, the deal fell through and the employer hired someone else. This has been really bothering me. It has been nearly three months now and I can't get past this. I cannot even focus on my current job and my family. I don't know what to do. I feel like I missed out and it's bothering me beyond words. I have never felt like this before. Call it crazy, but I sometimes even get to tears. Help! How can I overcome this? How would you rank this in terms of a regretful life event? Thank you for your help.

Jobs and salary negotiations are always a gamble...you were brave and took a gamble for yourself and your family....learn from the experience ...but don't tell yourself untrue things...such as that was it...I missed the boat...the work world isn't like that...it's a numbers game and the more opportunities you seek out and find...the more chances you'll have to get where you want to be...if you are skilled and hard working...then there is no "one" big opportunity that you miss and then it's over

If you are truly qualified and able to do a better job I am sure another offer will come along. You had better learn how to make decisions better if you are regretting the ones you've made. The cream usually has a way of rising to the top as you cannot dispute skills and abilities that have been proven.
Also, a job with more pay is not necessarily a better job. I left a job that I was perfectly happy at one time for a job with more pay. Boy was that a mistake!

You have to learn from this event and move on. You are making the same mistake over and over. Try to realize what you have. Right now, you are basically giving up what you have and any enjoyment you have in life because of greed. Be happy with what you have. It is probably worth more than anything else you could gain. So, don';t make the same mistake twice and lose the true fortune you have by essentially abandoning your family for the pursuit of money or your grief over the loss of filthy lucre!

Hey dude, dont see it as a regretable life choice/decision, I've personally made a few bad career moves and business decisions over the past 5 yrs. The key is not to be upset or let urself be down on it, use these expences to build the base u have already created and let it grow from there, u will definately be better for it.

You'll be fine...just move on. We have ALL done something like this. I have lived a long life and when I look back on jobs, decisions, etc. I have found that most of them have worked out EXACTLY as they should have. We don't have all the answers. I do know that many things that I thought were very bad, at the time, have taught me great life lessons. looking back...I wouldn't change a thing! Move on and appreciate where you are, right now!

Things happen for a reason. Maybe if you would have taken this job you might not of had time for your family. You should tear up for life, not a job or money.

it seems to me that you sound more mad at yourself than anything...that feeling is normal....and were you willing to leave your current job over something other than money? because if it was just the prospect of better pay at the job you were offered then i suggest that maybe at the job you are currently at to ask for a raise....it never hurts to ask...and just hang in there everything happens for a reason.....who knows something wunderful could become of this!!!!
