I have trouble feeling interested in things, especially if it's people talking to me. I don't want to try to diagnose myself here. I'm just wanting to keep a check on my health habits and see if there is anything I can change, or that I could be looking out for. I feel so bad because I feel like I'm being self-absorbed. I don't want to be that way.

A socio-path wouldn't feel bad.

You might be reacting to people the way that you have been treated as a younger person. You shouldn't feign interest in conversations, that is not being true to yourself. You might want to look into some self-help books. Try volunteer work. Maybe you can become more engaged while helping people with a greater need.

you could be bored.....here's what i recommend...go to the library and check out a bunch of books about a bunch of different things and see if any of it catches your interest....for me, i am not interested in the same things as most of the people around me so unless i find something that intersts me i start feeling deflated kinda, if this doesn't work you might see a dr and make sure it is not something physical, if it is not that, there is no shame in seeing a therapist of some sort once or a hundred times or whatever....good luck!

I think you should look it up in a dictionary first and make sure that your really talking about being apathetic or something else. Also if you want to know symptoms go to webmd.com that should help alittle.

Maybe you can look into what its like to be woried about where your next meal is coming from, like volunteering for a soup kitchen or something. Find out how fragile life can be. Many times that is a way to begin to appreciate what we have and we lose our apathy and redevelop a zest for life.

You need counseling to a minor degree. I do admire you for recognizing that you do have a problem and are trying to do something about it.
