Yes, mentally. They were both alcoholics, but functioned with their every day lives, working and interacting with others. No one ever talked about being an alcoholic in those years, not like it is now where one can seek help. They were verbally abusive to each other almost every night, and it spilled over to being verbally abusive toward me. It was difficult. I ended up getting married at 18 just to get out of the house, but to no surprise, divorced and married a better life partner.

Yes - they were abusive towards each other. They weren't really abusive towards me. It was more of a neglect thing.

towards each other and my father was verbally and mentally abusive to me. My mom is the best tho. I don't know what I would do without her.

oh yes very much so , I used to hide in my bedroom, I used to call the police but in those days they would only tell them to quiet down! They didn't care about me crying for help and reaching out. I wish there had been more compassion for abuse back then

My parents were and still are very loving people. They were strict with my brother and I. But never laid a hand on either one of us, but we knew not to be bad. But between mom and dad sure they had disagreements but never hitting, never yelling or screaming. Even now they are 85 and 84 years old and they are still very much in love.

at the end of their marriage they became abusive to each other (my dad more than my mom) now they are divorce which is a good thing.

My mother was very abusive to me, but not my younger brother. However, my brother's father (yes we have different fathers. My growing up was very confusing with my mother!!) was very abusive to my mother, but not us kids.
