It's the steel type that is always covering the hole. Your push down on it to stop the draining and pull up on it to drain the tub. We have tried turning it to loosen it, but it doesn't work. Pulling up really hard on it also does not work!!! We don't know how it remove it!

You cant....

THose old plunger types are a bug-a-boo, and you probably want to pull it out because you have let hair and other "gunk" buildup and wrap around the drain stem.

Pour some Foaming pipe snake in the drain and let it sit overnite.... then close the drain and fill the tub with about 5-6" of water. Take a toilet plunger and place it over the drain, and then open the drain.

As water it draining, work the plunger up and down with a bit of effort, and you will see all sorts of crud start swirling up in your tub. Dont sweat it, as that is the gunk that was clogging your drain all this time.

After plunging for 15-30 seconds, and seeing all that gunk in your tub, the drain ought to be sucking water down like a streak of lightning.

If it isnt..... repeat the process of filling the tub w/ water and start plunging again... The foaming drain snake should have knocked YEARS of buildup off the drain and surrounding pipes...

Good Luck!!....

You may have to release it from inside the pipe fitting under the shower. Good luck....
