I'm planning on moving up to a 20 gallon tank, and I want to make sure it is waterscaped real nice. I am going for a natural, tropical freshwater look, and I was curious if anyone knew any good websites with nice pictures, or if they had any pictures of their own! I have two java ferns, but I want to stay away from live plants if possible. Smaller tanks (10, 20, 30 gal.) would be preferrable! :-)

I don't know how to reply on this forum, so I'm giving it my best shot! :D

I am avoiding live plants for two reasons:

1. I've been told good substrate and a CO2 injector gives you the best results. That is out of my current price range.

2. I don't want the hassle at the moment.

here are some "low tech" tanks -- no extra lighting, no co2, its a new breed of tank -- the low tech and proud.

Why would you want to stay away from live plants? They don't require fertilizer like many people say... Some Java Moss would look cool attatched to driftwood or rocks... you could even hang it from your filter if you have a HOB (hang on back) filter and it would cascade into the tank like a natural waterfall!

I don't know, I have a 8" tall ostrich figurine and red silk flowers in my fish tank. They really seem to like it. I think traditional waterscapes are over rated. That didn't help you, did it.

One site I've always recommended for inspiration is this one: http://www.ratemyfishtank.com/ Just check on the categories of tanks that interest you.
