on my vibration dampner (harmonic balancer) there is 4 marks on it, is the thinkest mark the one i use for timing?

1984 chevy s10 2.8L V6

yes its tdc it lines up with the proper degree mark

zero degrees tdc should be the largest, and longest one in the center of smaller marks. they are in 5 degree increments before, at and after top dead center on the number one cylinder. read your manual, you should be a few degrees before tdc, not on the big mark. the big mark is more for a reference point for installing the distributor or adjusting valves.
