You can take a baby into the water from birth. It is really no different to the bath. From birth to around 6 months babies actually have a natural reflex that stops them from inhailing fluids (this is what enables them to breast feed and breathe without choking). Pour water over her face so she gets used to the feeling but It is advisable to get someone who knows what they are doing to show you how to put them under for the first time.

Supervised at all times of course. We took our daughter swimming a few weeks ago for the first time at age 10 months. She had the best time.

My daughter also likes to swallow water in the bath. She stopped doing that at about age 8-9 months, especialy after she choked a little on accident.

Have fun.

My son started lessons at 3 months old and thats the earliest that the swim school he goes to starts them. Just don't put her head in the water if you are worried about her drinking it. There are actually baby sling/carriers that are specifically for putting bub in the water while having them on you in front. Not sure what the brand is, i will edit this and add it if i remember.

It is safe at any age to take a baby swimming. Just make sure she isnt out in the sun too long, and that the water isnt too cold or hot.

1. Lots of sunscreen, even her hair.
2. Keep her face out of the water to avoid her "drinking it."
3. Just play with her in your arms for a few minutes.
DON'T put her in a flotation device. She's too young. Hold on to her every second.

Put a hat and a t-shirt, she's too young for sunblock.
And dont stay for too long, I mean 10min is enough. Get one of those nice floaters where you can 'sit' her.
I took mine swimming when he was 3 mo.
He loved it, we all enjoyed it
Make sure the water is not too cold, and if she doesnt seem to like it, just dont force her, leave it for another time.
Have Fun!!

I have a 4 month old, that I have not taken swimming yet. My 18 month old went when she was 4 months old. We put her in a blow up boat with a canopy...worked really well and SHE LOVED IT!

Before 6 months of age, she should not be in chlorine water at all. Also, it is dangerous to put her in the pool because you can't put sunblock on her yet!
