" Surfface area = 4 * pi (r)^2 ..............and r = 8 "

How does that help me? I mean I have NO idea what I'm doing! That's like another language to me :(

Well the general formula for area of a sphere is:

A= 4(Pi)r^2

when r=8;

A= 4(3.1416*8^2)

A= 4(3.1416*64)

A= 4(201.0624)

A= 804.25 square units

It means how much space can be occupied within a sphere of 8 units radius.
4(pi)r^2=4*3.1415*64 = 804.224 square units. If the unit is inches, 804 squares can fit in the area, each with side1 inch. If the unit is miles, 804 sqaures can fit in the area each square with side 1 mile and so on.

4π x r²
= 4 x 3.142 x 8 x 8
= 804.4 square units.
(eg. if your sphere radius is 8 cm (units), then the above answer is 804.4 cm². (Square Centimetres)

S.A. = 4.π.r²
S.A.= 4 x π x 8² units²
S.A. = 256.π units²
S.A.= 804.2 units² (to 1 dec. place)
