First you need to find the right ram to put into your computer, and make sure one of your ram slots are available. Next, you will need to find the model of the computer, perferably on the internet. Then decide how much you want to add. You can then buy the ram on the internet or at an electronics store.

If it is a desktop you will need to remove the case and find the ram slot. Place the ram firmly into the slot, so it clicks. Then, just put the case back on.

If its a laptop its pretty much the same thing. Just note that desktop ram and notebook ram are different from each other. You should notice a major increase in speed depending on the amount of ram you install. 1G is usually around $100, and should be plenty.

Do you have the book that came with your computer? You first need to make sure it will support additional ram. Most companies provide at least two banks and only put memory in one. Then you need to write down the type of memory your book calls for and also the amount of memory your system currently has. Armed with that information go to the store and purchase a stick of memory. If your system came with 256 you would want to either purchase another 256 stick or one 512 stick which would be twice the memory but replace the first stick. Chances are you could also add the 512 and the 256 together to get 780K which I personally have never seen but I think today it is possible. Use to be that you had to match the memory in both banks but that isn't the case today with the newer machines. If your unsure of what I mean send me the statement in your book regarding memory upgrades and I will clarify for you.

You will first need to determine what type of ram the computer takes by referring to your specifications which can sometimes be found online depending on your manufacturer. Installing the ram is quite simple as it just involves opening the computer up and snapping a chip into a slot. Some computers are harder to open up than others though, and in some cases the memory is hard to access, but that is usually not a problem with computers made in the last several years.

Buying a new CPU would be a better idea, the info the site has provided isn't enough, you need to take only few things under consideration when you install or add or increase the RAM:- you need to know what type RAM it is like -DDR, DDR2, SD, etc etc etc, you need to know maximum memory or RAM your CPU can support like 1 GB, 2 GB....and frequency (not sure what its real name is)of RAM like 441 Mhz, you can easily find everything you need to know by opening your CPU everything is mentioned in the RAM or I should say the long chip, "Maximum Memory Capacity: 512 MB Currently Installed Memory: 640 MB" wackiest thing I have ever read.

Delete shortcuts in your desktop, even if you use it everyday you should have em in your programs menu.

Download Disk cleaner

http://www.diskcleaner.nl/download.php

Delete movies and such that you have watched.

Set programs not to open on startup

Save personal documents in another drive if you have one. Most people have windows file on the C drive and you want that to have as much free memory as possible. I save my pictures and such on D drive.

If you have windows XP go to the desktop, right click it, go to properties, Appearance tab, set it to windows classic. That will give you lots of ram.

Go to start>control panel> add/remove programs> delete programs that you dont use that take up significant memory(anythin around 50mb and up that you dont use has got to go.)

Buy memory somewhere like Best Buy,Circuit City or Comp USA to give you more ram. This will really make a difference.
