Well its probly the GSM, so it will go pretty slow and wont be worth it, but you can try and google it if you really need to use a phone as a modem

im trying to do the same thing..well, i havent gotten the cord yet but what i know, is that you have to have an "access plan" ..either, broadband access, national, or global. and they are all 59.99$. and then you have to download "vzaccess" off verizon's website. but im trying to avoid that by making the phone as a secondary modem to connect my isp which would only charge the minutes (so nights and weekends would be free and what not)

you can get a month free of broadband access if you ask a vzw rep. then just call and de activate it when times up. or else it would charge 2$ a day(which equal 60$ a month) so yeah.

i havent read through this site just yet, because the usb cable hasnt came in the mail but it looks helpful:

http://www.engadget.com/2005/01/18/how-to-use-your-cdma-cellphone-as-a-usb-modem/

and i got my usb cable kit from (its the cheapest i could find, and even includes your drivers and software): http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-DATA-CABLE-KIT-for-LG-VX9400-VX8700-VX-9400-VX-8700_W0QQitemZ220121242079QQihZ012QQcategoryZ50327QQcmdZViewItem

hope that helps!
