I am supposed to be around 32 weeks pregnant. (Due August 15. I went to the doctor today and he measured me at 36/37 weeks. This is my third baby. My last child was large at 9lbs 5 oz. He said he also wanted to check the fluid and scheduled an ultrasound! Anyone else have this problem? I do not have gestational diabetes and definitley not having twins. I am quite confused. Help Please!!

Don't be too worried because it's possible your due date might be off and so maybe you are really closer to 36 weeks.

Also, they can measure you and be off. With two of my pregnancies, the doctor's measurements were 2 weeks behind and he was concerned that I wasn't "big enough" for the baby's gestational age.

But it turns out both babies were fine and I was just measuring small. Every woman carries differently and puts on pregnancy weight differently, and remember that a doctor's measurements and ultrasounds are not a perfect science.

About the fluid, it's possible that you might have more than normal (and why you are measuring a little bigger), but that doesn't usually cause complications. Just something the doctor might watch more closely.

If you are not fairly sure about when you conceived, please mention that to your doctor, because that could very well be why you are measuring big and he would need to take that into consideration as a factor.

I hope this doesn't sound rude but gaining a lot of weigh can cause you to measure larger. The way a baby is laying in utero can also affect how you measure. If the baby is sticking its little bum out or something, you'll measure larger. Your doc is doing the right thing by checking via US. They'll measure fluid levels, you may have too much. Even if your baby is measuring at 36 weeks, it is very important to remember that he is still only 32 weeks, regardless of size, and has the lungs of a 32-weeker.

If you had an early US (1st trimester) it is highly unlikely that your due date is off by more than a week. I would count on whatever date your earliest US gave you.

I consistently measured 2-3 weeks larger than I was (1st baby) and my doctors were never too worried about it. They did an ultrasound to determine if I had more than the acceptable amount of amniotic fluid. I was towards the high end, but within the okay range. My baby ended up flipping a lot towards the end and wound up being breech, assumably because of the excess fluid. Just something to consider, but it sounds like the doctors are wanting to make sure it's the actual baby that's making you measure larger. Good luck! And congrats!

I did!! I had too much fluid and when my water broke 4 months early the drs think it may have been from all the extra fluid. No one knows for sure.
