We use Honey, Sweetie, Baby, Darling , Babe and Kiddo
the above are rather normal.
Sometimes..we use a few others.. like POPEYE..and Olive (he's a US Navy Reservist)..or Hot Daddy and "Baby Girl"
but since we both speak German with each other too.. we use this one when ever in the mood .. :
Schatzi, Liebling (german version of Darling and is pronounced Leeb-ling),
but most of the time we call each other BRAT.. just for fun..you know like you call your better half, and he or she picks up the phone and you address them as HEY YOU BRAT.. :) we both came up with that because he's a big Brat most of the time and just a big kid at heart and well I act like that too every now and then so most of the time if we call each other or leave each other voice mails on the cell phone we just address it to HEY YOU BRAT.. :) ....BYE BRAT :)
Its rather fitting, people at the grocery store and everywhere look at me weird but i don't care..its like we have our own special way of communication only the both of us understand each other this way. :)

If you are looking to call your lover a nickname
think of something more original than cupcake, darling, honey
My girlfriend, I call her Bebe which is baby in spanish
She is white/polish so it's new to her :)
if you're saying lover as in just your sex partner
call him big-boy :)!

Sweetie, Honey, "Gulding" (German for "golden"), but usually "sweetie" when I am mentioning her to others, like on this forum.
