I bought a Red Glass Barb today. Unfortunately, I didn't get him any playmates and he seems distressed. How soon could I buy hime some friends? I'm thinking one or two more might make him happier, but I've read that you should wait over a week to add in more fish after adding some in.

Adding a few more would be a good idea assuming you have room in the tank. Barbs do prefer to live in groups and as many as 6 wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

As long as you do a few small water changes over the next few days, the extra additions won't be a problem at all.

If you want playmates go to playboy. If you want tank mates for your Barb then you should get more ASAP. If your tank has been completely cycled then I would get 4 more if the tank can hold it. If it is 10 gallons or bigger then it can handle 4 more. If your tank is brand new it will need 6 to 8 weeks to cycle.

Sorry about the playmate comment, I couldn't resist.

hey you! i've never had barbs before, so i am certainly no expert. but, from what i've been told - just make sure that (whatever you get), do NOT get a fish with a long, flowy tail. barbs tend to be fin-nippers. so, yeah, other barbs would be nice.

also, if your tank has been recently set up, i would think that I would definately wait the week so the bacteria can take care of that ammonia. however, if it has been established - i don't think one (possibly two) more would hurt.

Get him 2-3 more immediately. Barbs are social and will get sick if not kept with their own species.

Barbs are schooling fish so it would be great if you have about five or more

but all that depends on tank size there is a rule one inch per gallon but you have to use there adult size!!!!
