The cost of the illegal intifada, a social safety valve for mehico, is paid for by the states, not the feds. The feds do not care. That is why they pass amnesty crap without a vote! They do not have to pay for it! nm

Politicians only need one thing: they need a majority of votes on election days. There are two ways to do that. They can do what the majority of the people want all the time - which is impossible, because people don't come in neat voting blocks like that. Or, they can gather huge campaign contributions to buy media time to bash thier opponents until no one can even think of voting for them.
Most, opt for the later, and, the people giving out the money want some return on thier investment.
The money people and the aparatchiks of both parties absolutely adore illegal immigration. Cheap powerless labor, economic growth, future solvency for social security, and babied who statistically grow up to register democrat. What more could corrupt politicians want?
The only problem is the American people barely tollerate legal immigration and positively hate illegal immigration.
The solution is to accept tight immigration controls, and then simply decline to ever enforce them. You get all the immigrants you want, without ever voting for an open-borders bill.
Every once in a while, though, the population of illegals gets so out of hand that you have to make some token gesture (last time was 1986). A 'compromise' or 'reform' bill that re-affirms the unrealistically low limits on legal immigration, grants amnesty to illegals already here, and promises enforcement that, like all immigration enforcement in the last 50 years, will never be delivered.
That's /exactly/ what the 86 bill was, and exactly what the current Amnesty Bill is.

In cased you haven't noticed it illegal immigrants are everywhere doing all sorts of jobs. I think one of the main reasons why the gov't is interested in legitimizing illegals is to make money through them and to avoid the costs of expelling them. Under the proposed Immigration Bill, they would have to pay back taxes, and that's a lot of money. The money saved from carting them across the border is also a lot of money.
"Dropping the hammer" is far easier said than done. CNN's Lou Dobbs, a highly educated authority on the illegal immigration crisis in our nation regularly uses a figure of "20 million" when discussing the number of illegal aliens on his broadcast "Lou Dobbs Tonight" . THAT'S A LOT OF PEOPLE. If this number is correct, consider the costs of transporting them. Who would foot the bill? Since the borders are under Federal juridiction, the taxpayers would pay.
In light of this, there are three routes we could take:
1. Continue to turn a blind eye to the immigrants.
2. Pay for their expulsion out of an increased tax budget, or
3. Tax the immigrants, and let them continue to work hard.
...don't speak for the Bulk of Americans until you've met them all. Also, I wonder why you feel you need your country back. Our country has often been characterized as a "melting pot", a mixture of unique, beautiful cultures, and that mixture is different today than it was 100 years ago, and the same will be true in 100 more years, like it or not.

I'm with you.
How do we change our system.
The elected officials listen only to people that give them $$$
Even when the majority and overwhelming majority of Americans have voiced their opinions
They brush us off, don't care what we say or challenge our loyalty to America or Intelligence if we don't agree with them.

The American economy is 'booming' in a large part due to cheap illegal labour.
Send them back and the cost of living will skyrocket.
Which damn idiot doesn't understand that?
Up with your idiotic paws.
Americans in general have brains only to separate their ears.

The majority of wealthy political donors, regardless of party want amnesty for illegals. Money talks, we don't.

I think they want to be sure there's going to be someone available to pick your fruits and veggies before they make a final decision.
Seriously, the question is more complex than you make it sound.
