if I did a cluster of 30 or so names and weighed their credentials, I could probably come up with a "real" (as you say) top 10. Let's brainstrom.
Carmelo, LeBron, A.I., Shaq, C-Webb, KG, D-Wade, Ray Allen, T-Mac, Yao, Dirk, Nash, JKidd, Vinsanity, Sprewell, Baron Davis, Mike Bibby, Jamal Mashburn, Paul Pierce, Antoine Walker, Jermaine O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, G-Hill, Michael Finley, Zydrunas Illgauskas, Glenn Robinson, Rasheed Wallace, Pau Gasol, Ben Wallace, Steve Francis, Amare Stoudemire, Stephan Marbury, Peja Stojakovic, Ron Artest..... and others......
Here's the 10 best of the last 10 years.....(hope you like) :
1.) TIM DUNCAN: .. "THE BASKETBALL GOD".......{notice I didn't place his name in the cluster}.. (it would be an insult to mention Duncan's name in the same sentence or "cluster" as the rest of these players)........ (HE IS THE NBA over the last 10 years and right there with Tiger Woods as the most dominant player in his SPORT /....sidenote: Duncan and Woods actually sound very much alike.... just a funny sidenote/ He's won 2 regular season MVP's and 3 Finals MVP's. Even though Tony Parker won this year's Finals MVP, there's no question who the "LEADER" of the Spurs is. Duncan was still the overall playoff MVP and the "REAL FINALS MVP". Everyone knows the "REAL 2007 NBA FINALS" was against the Phoenix Suns. Duncan currently remains by far the best basketball player on the face of this (and probably any other) planet. It's simply ridiculous to name anyone else as number #1. He's been the best in the league since he entered the league. He was cheated out of the 1999(karl "MAILFRAUD" MALONE) & 2004(kevin KG{ee, I think an error in the voting occurred}garnett) regular season MVP awards. He will win the award in the 2007-2008 season to make up for those drastic mistakes. Without question Tim Duncan is the ABSOLUTE best of this past decade and his team is the team of the decade.....IN ALL OF SPORTS (not just the NBA)...... There is no argument at all to make a case for any other player. The Spurs were actually :00.4 seconds and a Ginobili brain cramp away from 5peating.... That's right... The Spurs should've just won their 5th title in a row, not just their 4th in 9 years. The question isn't whether Duncan is the best power foward of all time, he's been surpassed that. The real question should read: IS TIM DUNCAN THE GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME?. You may say no way and you'd be correct. However, he's not as far away from being the best as most of you think. He's probably 4th or 5th all time. Those who list another player as the best over the last 10 years simply has no clue about sports in general, let alone basketball. It's TIM DUNCAN'S LEAGUE...all the other players are just playing in it.)
2.) Shaquille O'Neal....(#1 among everyone else who's played the last decade, He has 4 rings as well, but he's not even close to the "REAL" #1 player.. the MAN ABOVE "BASKETBALL GOD". Shaq has never been the "LEADER" of the Miami Heat, though he's a key role player. D-Wade "LED" the Heat to the `06 NBA Championship, though the Spurs were still the ..... {Duncan's bad foot and Manu Ginobili's bonehead play aside}..... best team that year as well)
3.) Allen Iverson....(a close battle between him and Shaq. I go with Shaq, but barely. Iverson had no players around him as good as O'Neal's former and current teammates.
4.) Chris Webber....(very underrated.. and were it not for that debacle of a game 7 in the `02 West Finals, most would rank him 4 as well. One game, no matter the game played doesn't make or break a career. C-Webb was not quite as good as Shaq or A.I., but he's closer than most think)
5.) Steve Nash...(probably shouldn't have won either MVP....[Shaq in 2005 & D-Wade in 2006] However, you can't take them away. He's certainly top 5 of the last 10 years.
6.) Dwayne Wade.....(should've won the regular season MVP in `06... YES HE SHOULD HAVE.... it has nothing to do with the NBA playoffs.... I KNOW..... he had the best season of any player in the league that season. I didn't think Miami would go on and win the title either. [I thought Dallas had that won, but I glad they didn't, because San Antonio was the better team anyway. Tim Duncan dropped 41 on one good foot in game seven. Manu Ginobili blew that with a dumb *** foul in the closing seconds with the Spurs up 3, but I digress...] D-Wade is 6th best of the last 10 years....take it or leave it alone.)
7.) Carmelo Anthony... (Most sleep on 'Melo, but he has led his team to the post season every year of his career so far in a very tough Western Conference. There are some other stars you think are better than him, but they haven't led their teams to the post season every year of their career. I mean lead, not co-lead or play the strong supporting role, but LEAD. Anthony is the leader of the Denver Nuggets.)
8.) LeBron James.....(I know he played in the Leastern Conference, but to lead that "crappy" team to any finals of any kind... he deserves to be listed here.)
9.) Kevin Garnett......(Has had Karl Malone's career in reverse. K. Malone was very overrated late in his career. KG was very overrated early in his career. Both are hall worthy, but there are a bunch of players better. I just named 8 from only the last 10 years that are better than KG......PAY ATTENTION!!!!)
10.) Kobe Bryant....(I know you Kobe lovers hate this, but he's lucky to even be in the top 10. Dwayne Wade, Dirk Nowitski, Steve Nash and even Tony Parker & Chauncey Billups are more accomplished individually than Bryant. {Regular Season and Finals MVP's matter. Bryant has never won either} All-Star Game MVP's don't. [Hell, Glen Rice and Tom Chambers won All-Star Game MVP's] Bryant is a great role player, but not a very good leader. Let's be truthful for once about this guy. When he played with Shaq, he was Scottie Pippen with a worse attitude. While he's playing without Shaq, he's Dominique Wilkins with a worse shooting percentage. He's very overrated. He's not much better or is about the same as Ray Allen, Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady and Paul Pierce. All you Kobe fans, send him emails or something and tell him to make over half his shots just once for a whole season. He's 6'8" for God sake!!!!)
There's your list. Any list with major differences from this is based solely on biases and the like. This list is based on accomplishments in the last 10 years. Iverson could possibly be ahead of Shaq and Nash ahead of C-Webb, but other than that, this is it.
